Yep, Socialism leads to
1: You not being allowed to talk on a phone
2: You will be forced to go to a Parent-Teacher comitee
3: Your daughter will decide to runaway to a collective farm
4: You will have to fulfill quotas (oh wait, doesn't that happens now )
5: Your 8 year old will runaway to a boarding school
6: Churches will be banned, no religion
7: Lies about whether the Soviets invented something or the Americans did.
8: You will be executed for smashing a bunch of objects in a meusium.

Isn't propaganda awesome. Don't get me wrong the Soviets did propaganda too. But, oh, this is too funny. Did people actually take this film seriously in 1962?

I was on the Russian version of alternatehistory dot com the other day and they had some really trashy American Comic/Pin up pics from the 40's, 50's and 60's that were very heavily anti commie.

Kind of Racist too.

The Artwork was pretty good though despite how sickening some of the implied slurs and dehumanisation was.

This is what I mean by anti-communist propaganda. No historical context, no shades of grey, no nuance, no statistics, no evidence, no sources, no facts.

I agree. It's difficult to really understand the news without doing significant background research to figure out what is true, what is half-true/distorted and what is flat out lies and to find out what the truth really is. 90% of the lies are lies of ommission in which a certain picture is painted in the minds of the public by leaving out important facts and details and giving no context. For example say that Russia invaded crimea without the context that the US overthrew a democratic government in a coup with litteral Neo-Nazis who are now in the highest layers of the Government. Say that the opposition in Syria or Libya is fighting a dictator without mentioning that over 80% are Islamic Terrorists and Al Queda affiliates.

Specify which country and which time period you are talking about. I suspect you are talking about the USSR in which case I agree that this became a serious problem following the revisionism of Khrushchev.

The Molotov–Ribbentrop pact was created to give the Soviet Union time to build up it's military before a planned invasion of Germany. The Nazis just beat them to it. Stalin was the last leader in Europe to sign an agreement with Nazi Germany as France, Czechoslavakia, Bulgaria and Britian had already made deals with the Nazis. Stalin proposed an Anti-Fascist pact with Britain and France which was rejected because it involved putting Soviet troops in Poland.

I think you meant Berlin Wall. The Berlin wall wasn't built untill 1961, a full 16 years after the start of East Germany in 1945. This was to prevent brain drain as there was such a high emigration rate it hurt the economy severely. This hurt economy further drives people to leave East Germany. People were leaving East Germany primarily because they were attracted to the higher standards of living in West Germany (which had to pay almost no war repramands, was affected less in WW2 and was richer to start with as it had most the furtile land, population, industry ect). Many East Germans were also cut off from family members. Even if East Germany was capitalist it still would have needed to build the Berlin Wall.

Where? Which country are we talking about? China, USSR, East Germany, Albania, Yugoslavia, where? I admit these nations aren't as free as they could be. But the same goes for the United States. This isn't a strike against Socialism or Communism, just against individual countries.

Just wondering, do you support extreme emigration restrictions for example building a wall on the US-Mexico border or the free movement of people?

In the 60s and 70s-80s Europe and Germany in particular saw not immigration restrictions but the gradual abolishment of borders and the start of free movement of people so i really doubt what you're saying here.

Malnutrition was probably eliminated in the USSR by the 50s-60s but that doesn't mean that most people usually ate well. Soviet food was legendarily bad, even in Moscow and even for tourists. My father grew up on simple peasant food and even he couldn't stand what they got to eat in a hotel in Moscow in the 80s.

What evidence do you need? You had to wait many years to get a car in the E. block, google it if you wish so. And most communist cars were crap, with pretty much all of them being license-built outdated FIAT models but more poorly made ( and FIAT wasn't and isn't known for great cars anyway ).

Soviet people ate very well in fact, a full three meals a day. I can't believe you'd go so far as to say that soviet cuisine was legendary bad. I can except all forms of criticism towards my Soviet homeland but this is where I draw the line. Nobody and I mean nobody talks bad about the food.

If you were to compare the dinner table laid out in the 1950s by my grandmother to the table laid out this very night, it would be an exact replica and I tell you there is nothing like it in the world. I have heard every sort of criticism about life in the USSR from Soviet citizens but never about the food. My mother tells me that everything about foodstuffs was better in the Soviet Union. More "natural" as she always put it.

The fact that your father did not like the food in the Moscow hotel he stayed in either means that the chef in that hotel could not cook for shit, or that your father simply never acquired a taste for Russian cuisine.

My father who incidentally also frequented Moscow in the early 80s tells me that they had some of the best restaurants he'd ever been to. He tells me that the quality of the service, presentation, and food was superb. This is coming from a man who has more criticisms of the USSR than he does admiration. He for example absolutely hated Soviets cars. Till this day he tells me that there were no cars in the Soviet Union, "only Coca-Cola cans on wheels" he would say so I won't argue with you on that one.

But when it comes to the food, nothing, absolutely nothing compares to this:
