PRESIDENT OBAMA MAINTAINS US BLOCKADE OF CUBA
HAVANA, Cuba, Sept 16 (acn) President Barack Obama signed an order extending for another year the law used to impose the US trade blockade on Cuba, despite calls to lift all unilateral economic sanctions against the Caribbean nation.
Granma newspaper reports that Obama has followed in the footsteps of all previous US presidents who have signed one-year extensions of the law since the 1970s. Obama’s predecessor, George W. Bush, signed the last extension on September 12, 2008.
“I hereby determine that the continuation for one year of the exercise of those authorities with respect to Cuba is in the national interest of the United States,” Obama said in a statement issued by the White House on Monday, referring to the trade blockade under the Trading with the Enemy Act (TWEA).
Cuba is the only country in the world subject to sanctions under the Trading with the Enemy Act, enacted in 1917 and which bans trading with countries considered a threat for the United States, currently only affects Cuba.
The one-year extension of the blockade is announced only days before the next meeting of the UN General Assembly, which has condemned – for 17 consecutive years – the US blockade that has cost Cuba more than $90 billion in economic losses.

I wouldn't say it's "terrorist". Bad? Sure but there's nothing terroristic about it.

It's supposed to put terror into the minds of the Cuban government......

You're totally wrong.

The reason the Embargo of Cuba was implemented was to starve Cuban civilians to death. USA wanted to starve so many Cubans by the Embargo that the people would eventually revolt against the Government and force it out of Socialism and into Capitalism.

This embargo is terrorist, state terrorism, even with all the pressure in the world, impossed by the usa the cuban revolution fights on, and so does the proletariat revolution, this is one of the reasons why i think that someone should invade the usa, so it can release their damn pressure over latin america, or perhaps instead of an invasion the european union should embargo them or something, its intolerable

Regardless of original intent, at this point it's hardly a terrorist action. Or something surprising for that matter.

Link. Same shit, different president.

As for the blockade being terroristic, it could be depending on the definition. It is the use of force on non-combatants in order to create fear (of socialism).

Collective punishment would be more appropriate. It's also a war-crime.
Post 19 Sep 2009, 09:33
How's it a war-crime if there is no war?

An besides.... what makes it different from the 10 other presidents before him who continued the blockade?
Post 19 Sep 2009, 16:32
I don't know for some reason I just thought he was gonna try to open relations.
Post 19 Sep 2009, 16:36
Even if he was, I doubt he could change everything overnight.
Post 19 Sep 2009, 18:31
True, but ending the embargo would be a good start.

Seriously, will you piss off with this this trolling? In just about every thread, you pop up in an effort to hijack it, with nothing informative to say.

Pot called, he says you should call the kettle black.

That would be racist, you know, like supporting Mugabe's black opponent would be. . .

Kupredu, I think you are just saying this because TRL is Russian. You know that racism is unbecoming to a Marxist-Leninist right?

He doesn't troll. Well sometimes he does, but TRL has informative stuff to say most of the time.

Class war, war of ideas, or the fact that the USA has been trying to destablize the Cuban government for a half of a century.

The liberal media, revisionists and some comrades actually believed or inaccurately portrated Obama as someone who could walk on water and transform Cuban-American relations.

Sorry I don't really listen to the media in terms of forming my opinions. So for me Obama is just another imperial figurehead.

As for war-crimes, the term is usually associated with a fairly narrow definition. You're using it differently hence why I don't think it's an appropriate term. It's also a term with a lot of political capital attached to it, and it seems to me like you're trying to capitalize on that. If you want to say that the American blockade is evil, then you're right. But the term criminal implies a common set of laws and rules, which can't possibly exist between a socialist Cuba, and imperialist USA.
