There's the Soviet war documentary Moscow Strikes Back (1942)

It won an oscar for Best Documentary.

I think it's viewable on YouTube.

"Great Victory." Unfortuately no English subtitles, which is really too bad, because there's some great stories in this documentary, told by both gererals and squad level solders. It reminds me a bit of Tom Brokaw's "Greatest Generation" book/documentary film of the same name. Highlu recommended, if one knows Russian.
