Today is 29M, the day for the General Strike in Spain.

I've been following it in Twitter. So far I haven't seen signs of disturbances, only some protests because a lot of the bosses discounted this day in advance, knowing their workers would strike.

Funnily I haven't been able to follow this through the usual means (alternative Spanish press) because they too are on strike! But according to Telesur, adherence is at 90%.

Here's the story on Al-Jazeera:

Even the prostitutes joined it!

WHAT?? you think the strike in Spain is because of the Cuban intelligence agency?? Are you high? you clearly have no idea what's going on in Spain right now. Their unemployment is way over 25% and over 50% in the youth.

How big is the communist party in spain? Could they capitalise on the strikes?

The PCE is part of a larger coalition, called Izquierda Unida, which has more-to-the-left and more-to-the-right groups in it. They have a less than marginal following, but I hope that they will do better in the future.

The problem is that Spain has become largely a two party system between PSOE and PP (minus the nationalist parties in some of provinces). I hope that now that PSOE was ousted and as dissatisfaction with PP grows, people will look beyond the two.
