Hello... I'm not a Communist. I'm a fan of modern and Imperialist Russia, but I also have a fascination with the USSR. Anyway, I'm mainly here to observe, learn what I can, and perhaps interact with and make friends with others who are not Russo-phobes.

Khlib - No, I am not Russian. I'm 100% pure red blooded American. I just have a different opinion about the USSR and Russia than most other Americans. I do happen to speak some Russian though.

Just one more observation... Mosfilm put out some really excellent stuff. Why isn't there a forum to discuss old Soviet era movies & television programs? Just an idea...

From chronic poverty and starvation, about 100 million people starve per decade in India alone. 14 million people per year starve per year, that is, about 40000 per day. And you, as a hardcore Zionist, are a hypocrite for even caring about murder as the followers of your ideology are currently the one commiting murder. Mao murdered a lot of people, he also doubled life expectancy and ended famine in China - the only famine happening under Mao had a morality rate the same as China every year before 1949, because there always was a famine in some provinces every year and the life expectancy of 35. The Native tribes weren't murdered in the name of Capitalism, they were murdered because they murdered white settlers, took whites off as slaves, etc. I'm not saying that whites aren't guilty of the same - IT HAPPENED. There was a war, and one side one. That's how it always happens. The genocides were NOT war. They were the murder of civilians, citizens of the nation that murdered them, in peace time.

Yes, it was worst in Ukraine, but continued well away from the territory. As you can see by a little line there, it affected all grain growing regions of the USSR. This is coming from somebody who has an Ukrainian mother - she was born in the 1970s, but if really Stalin wanted to wipe out their people in 1933, she would have freaking known it from grandparents. There was a famine in the 1930s but it was not orchestrated to wipe Ukraine out.

Not even most sane Ukrainians believe in the "intentional genocide story". These things are born out of nationalism, which is most prevalent in Western Ukraine. Other Ukrainians call those people "Banderas", after the infamous "freedom figher" who worked with the Nazis while they killed 30 million Soviet people much of them Ukrainians.

And it does not matter in whose name a murder was commited, Gulags were a matter of "national security and getting rid of fascist agents", not "helping communism".

I have a friend in the Ukraine who takes the same position as you stated. He said that his grandparents lived during that time, and they kept a picture of Stalin in their home until their deaths. I suppose the position you take is the other side of the argument, although this is only the second time I have heard it stated (and I have a half dozen or so friends who are from the Ukraine).

I personally don't like Stalin much so perhaps I am a bit biased...
