I had heard about plans to open up fast food restaurants in the DPRK, but I didn't know it's already started until I saw this video today: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c4v0NU8QREU
Would like to know more about this, like what do they call this,* what kinds of selections they have, price range, and such? *First thing to spring to mind was this, actually, and the opening scene from Pulp Fiction. What do they call a Quarter Pounder in Pyongyang, man? “Conservatism is the blind and fear-filled worship of dead radicals” - Mark Twain
Wow that looked better than ours. I mean that sandwich was huge compared to your average McDonalds burger. I'm not surprised that the DPRK made it past the old stupid idea that somehow fast food turned people capitalist.

One of my teachers from the ex-USSR said that when McDonald's first showed up in the Soviet Union, the quality was really good too. Better service, more care taken with food, better quality meat, vegetables, and bread that they got fresh from the market as opposed to mass-produced, mass-frozen things. I wouldn't be surprised if this restaurant in Pyongyang is the same way.

I was thinking the same thing. Like a higher standard for food quality. Again another proof of Socialism being way superior to Capitalism even if it is just ideological.

My main gripe with fast food is how unhealthy it is. I'd rather pay the extra couple of dollars for a decent burger from a cafe. If the burgers are better in Pyongyang, goodo.

Where exactly did the "fast food ==> capitalist" thing come from? Dunno, maybe it's because by the time I was born, China was already importing like Western stuff, including fast food and clothing, which only increased over time, so it never struck me as odd...

It was considered an integral part of Western Consumerism which was largely considered anathema throughout the Second World. This was the basis for rejecting rock and roll for the most part as well. Neither worked in our favor and ultimately made a McDonalds in Moscow a propaganda victory for the West.

Yay juche burgers or the masses. This is really interesting, and their fast food restaurants look way more cleaner, colorful, and fancier (the wall paper looks nice) then ours. Im gonna have to show this to my friends that think all of North Korea is just some grey dull Orwellian dictatorship. It's also proof that the food situation is more stable, and that not every one is starving like western media wants us to think.
