Does anybody know anything about the Sirigumi? Apparently they were the most repressive secret police force in post-war Eastern Europe
Well,it's very hard to find info on Socialist Albania.
Especially about the Sigurimi(nor Sirigumi ) Though i doubt there was anything more repressive and pervasive as Stasi...
The Stasi were much more pervasive than the Sigurimi because they had the technology to monitor the population but the latter probably employed more violence than the former when it comes to preventing dissent.
Yeah, from what I know the Stasi was more pervasive, but less repressive than the Sigurimi.

On an unrelated note, it's pretty ironic that people complain about Stasi surveillance when Western intelligence services have the technology to monitor the masses that the Stasi could only dream of. The digital revolution means that they can monitor e-mails, access CCTVs, use unmanned drones etc. and yet people free that we're "free" or whatever.
Somehow, that makes being monitored less uncomfortable, if you know what I mean. Having a man staring at you, or a microphone, etc is more disturbing than being monitored through a videocamera. I guess the Stasi would be much less disturbing to the East Germans with the means they'd have had they survived up to today.

I heard that the Albanian Secret Police would steal from citizens under the argument of taking "private property" which were actually personal possessions.

Yes,i've heard that to.Though that's my grandma's story but i doubt she would lie.
One Albanian refugee told her that the police took away plants from her garden(a small private plot even kolkhozniks were allowed to have) and stomped on what they couldn't carry."Eliminating private property and small capitalism",that's what these scumbags said.

From what i've heard life in Hoxha's Albania was absolutely dreadful. There was no freedom of religion or speech whatsover.

Anyway, it seems like the Sigurimi was in any case very effective in what it had to do.
