There is a little sect of Maoists-Gonzalists in Malmö(maoistiskt forum, vänskapsföreningen Sverige-det nya Peru), near to my home. And even if they are a very marginalized group they have reached me with their agitation and propaganda. The strategy used by this group shares much with the strategy used by his followers in Peru, they systematically denounce and harasses those that does´nt share their line, actually they have expelled the peruan communist that started the group and have had some kind of streetfight with them.
The Vänskapsföreningen Sverige-det nya Peru hails Abimael Guzman (or chairman Gonzalo as they usually call him) as the most important contributor to marxism since Mao. Gonzalos interpretation and development of marxism is known as, if I rememeber correctly, marxism-leninism-maoism-Gonzalo Thought. Gonzalo Thought is marxism-leninism-maoism applied to the conditions of Peru. I have no idea why the maoists in Malmö wants to export marxism-leninism-maoism applied to the conditions of Peru to Sweden, but they do. It seems to me that the most significant features of Gonzalo Thought is writing extremely long sentences, sometimes about a page in length, constantly quoting Mao, Lenin and Mariategui out of context, denouncing everyone that does not share their interpretation of any of the aforementioned communists as revisionists, anarchists, social fascists or trotskyites, they are very much into meaningless violence both in Peru, where they kill union activists and communists, and in Sweden where they harass other communists while doing nothing against any real enemys (the capitalists). The last major feature of Gonzalo Thought is to end nearly all texts with many slogans written with capital letters like this: LONG LIVE THE THOUGHT OF GREAT GONZALO PEOPLES WAR FOREVER DEATH TO THE SOCIAL FASCISTS
Guzmán and PCP-SL were a bunch of idiots. Their guerrilla tactics were a complete failure. I don't find bombings very helpful to the cause of socialism.

Seriously, though, it depends on who and where you're bombing. Let's face it, "freedom fighting" tends to expedite things. Where would everyone's favorite terrorist-created state, Israel, be without it? Quote: I agree with you, I'm not pacifist. But I'm referring to the general tactics of guerrilla warfare in Latin America, altough of course PCP-SL operated mainly in peasantry sectors and their actions in cities were minor in comparison to other typical urban guerrillas. Of course a particular action can be thought as 'justice'. Radowiztky (an anarchist) in Argentina killed Ramón Falcón, a major worker repressor, by bombing, and I don't care a shit about that burgeois repressor. But if that is in a frame of a correct political line, that's ok. And PCP-SL line was wrong, in the short and long term.

Guzman called itself, as the pedantic university professor he always was, 'the fourth sword of marxism'. According to PCP-SL, The 'Gonzalo-Thought' was the highest stage of marxism after Mao.
Marxism-Leninism-Maoism-Gonzalo Thought. That was the banner. Go figure. |
