What is your opinion of them? I think they were awesome just by the sheer size of the airline. It was the worlds largest airline, with the worlds largest fleet of planes. The best part? They were all awesome Ilyushin's, Tupolev's, Yakolev's, and Antonov's! People slam it as "Aeroflop" but you must consider they did do the vast majority of flights safely. They proudly hold the record for 2 successful water landings with no fatalities. They maintained a huge fleet of aircraft, and the pilots were trained with Red Air Force training.

What I have read, is that service was subpar. Things like "DONT YOU DARE TAKE MORE THAN ONE CANDY!!!" and plain boring meals, erm meal, known as Chicken ala Aeroflot. A chicken breast with rice. Is it true that was the only food? I find that hard to believe. The livery on the planes itself were classic. A nice simple blue stripe, white and grey paint, huge AEROFLOT titles, and a nice big Soviet flag on the tail.

Anyone have any stories of flying on soviet aeroflot, not the current aeroflot?

That sounds like something a from a stereotypical anti Soviet joke. Anyways who cares if their food was bad since when are airlines in the US known for having good food? Every stand up comic makes fun of them. Anyways on a slightly unrelated topic Jet Blue has become my favorite airline. There's no first class, you get free food and drinks, and every seat has it's own TV. Marx would be proud.

Aeroflot had no first class too. Same seats for all. Very little profit for the Soviet State on internal flights. It was like 20$ a ticket for soviet citizens, just enough to cover food and fuel really.

Your right though, I was just seeing if anyone had hands on experience with what I think was the most awesome airline. The stereotypes for Aeroflot SSR apply to any US airline today.

Except Aeroflot was vastly cheaper to fly on. And cooler. The sound of a NK-8 engine beats any other jet engine. Ah TU-154, IL-62 and TU-134.

I believe it. Also 20 dollars a person isn't bad at all. Now they're charging like 15 or 20 dollars just to bring one bag on board a plane. Jet Blue and I think South West don't charge though so that's another reason to like them.

I don't know what Aeroflot was like back in Soviet times, but I did go to Russia and found out a little bit about it. My Russian guide said it's not that great compared to foreign air lines, in what ways I'm not exactly sure. My guide also said Russin air lines pretty much always give you in-flight food for free too, which I would assume Aeroflot does. I took another Russian airline from St. Petersburg to Moscow and they served food, which an American airline would certainlywould not have done.

The most surprising thing for me was their logo though. They still have a hammer and sickle in it, which was interesting to see.

Dear comrade, have you ever enjoyed good food on an airplane?! All that I have seen is plastic-packaged addictives-filled industrial quasi-food...
free if the flight is high fare and exhorbitantly dear if it is low fare.

Are you saying that all airplanes are known for having better then horrible food? Or perhaps the sentence is grammatically incorrect?

Probably I suck at grammer. In fact I just spelled grammar as grammer because of Kelsy Grammer the actor who portrayed Frasier Crane for 20 years.
