The trial of international terrorist Luis Posada Carriles, charged with migratory fraud and false testimony, has been set for August 10 before the same judge that previously freed him; and the attorney generals, who continue to ignore his terrorist past, have requested that they set his bail for $350,000 as a guarantee that he will appear in court.
According to EFE, they also asked Judge Kathleen Cardone that Posada be forced to wear an electronic ankle bracelet; that he may not leave the United States – fundamental – and that he abstains from communicating with terrorists Santiago Ãlvarez, Oswaldo Mitat, José Pujol, Rubén López Castro and Ernesto Abreu who refused to testify at his trial.
Judge Cardone set the date for the trial at a hearing in El Paso, Texas.
The former CIA agent will have to face charges for having tried to obtain citizenship with false declarations in an application presented on September 10, 2005, according to the accusation. The terrorist also lied under oath in an interview with officials from the Department of National Security in April, 2006.
Using another delay tactic to avoid his extradition, the Federal Attorney’s Office appealed Cardone’s decision to disallow the case in front of the Fifth Circuit Appeal Court in New Orleans that ordered, after an endless amount of time, that he be tried.
On April 19, 2007, Posada Carriles was freed and went to his wife’s home in Miami. He never respected the conditions of his release nor the most minimal decorum considering the situation.
