Thankfully only small parts of Estonia look like that. Ã•ismÃ¤e being the most dominant. Estonia doesn't need big ass circular buildings like Russia does, that shit is pointless and ugly as hell.

Looks a lot better than eastern Helsinki or Kauniainen. Kauniainen has couple of mansions around small polluted pond. Stupid and inefficient.

Probably U don't know, for what purposes these houses and dwelling blocks were built.
Exactly for the same reason as new dwelling areas in Gaza sector or other areas in occupied Palerstinian areas - to inhabit new people from other regions of Israel to make this land "own" - in Estonia all new dwelling areas were built mainly for newcomers from other parts of Soviet Union to brake Estonia's nation's unity, to brake national awareness, for destroing a former little country to expand Soviet expansionism (as Lenin said - to create a new nation . a soviet nation)

I know, I know - lot of people will not agree with me - but read my comparison with Israelis developing politics - it is the same issue.

That can be summed up in one word. Assimilation. And if the soviet union was to stay intact it was necessary.

The USSR was not an assimilationist project, though whether it should have been is another issue. By guaranteeing virtually each major nationality their own republic (together with autonomous regions within for the smaller nationalities) as well as recognizing official cultural, language, and other rights, the regime defied classifications by Western scholars as a 'nation-destroying' project. The nationalists in each republic had such an easy time in 1991 because all the prerequisites of a state already existed on a micro level within each republic. And as a matter of historical note, the regime, particularly in the early years of Lenin and Stalin, worked extensively to categorize and classify people by nationalities, which the people themselves often did not yet feel. For example, in 1923 Ukrainian language newspaper circulation accounted for 12.5% of the total for the republic. By 1939 it was 67.4%.

You're right, Soviet Union was not an assimilationist project, it occupied independent countries and nations. What happened in Estonia of independent journalism (to compare with an example of Ukraine You gave):

False logic. The Soviet Union did not carry out ethnic cleansing. Instead assimilation was achieved by attempts to mix the nationalities. Giving them independent republics was an attempt to deal with nationalism (and with the fact that the USSR was formed out of several Soviet Socialist Republics at the end of the Civil War).
