Who do you think is the best Soviet leader?
To me Khruschev is the best Soviet leader beacause; He put an end to Stalin's opression, and supported Cuba after the U.S. set up its embargo. He also helped and supported pro Soviet countries that were anti-U.S. like Egypt. Khruschev formed the Warsaw Pact, and sent a man into space before the U.S. did

I think the term "best" is discussable but anyway on my opinion Stalin was the best leader russia ever had..yes he killed 14 million people and opressed whole soviet population..but that is only the black side..he also improved russias economy to a level which it would have never achieved under any other leader. In the end he might have rescued russia from an american invasion because if the nuclear bomb wouldnt have been built under his regime the cold war woul most likely have ended short and sorrow...with an american flag waving in moscow.

I disagree with both of you. But yet, Stalin also has my favour as best Soviet leader. His efforst to advance socialism in the 20th century is huge, the construction of the worlds first socialst state and uniting a global working class under the banner of socailism, albeit in the end a bit too much centered on the USSR itself, have been remarkable. But when the question would have been who was the best marxist leader, it would have been Lenin. His contributions to the study of imperialism and the economics of capitalism in that stage, the organisation of the communist party are still among the heritage most relevant today.

Stalin is definately the best!

Without him it is unlikely that the USSR would have been modernised so quickly, and ruthlessly, under the leadership of say Trotsky?

Stalin, hands down. Though Lenin is a close second, his tenure was short and in no way compares to the accomplishments made by Stalin in his career.

I don't consider neither Stalin or Lenin as leaders of the USSR. I consider them both equally unmatched compared to any communist leader. One founded the Soviet Union and founded on what it will stand for, another made it a superpower coming from an agricultural society to an industrialized country. I don't put Stalin or Lenin after Khrushchev, because nobody can say that they were better leaders. They were the best leaders I've ever heard of in modern history. When I posted this question I didn't really mean which was the best one, of course most would say Lenin. I meant after Lenin and Stalin finished their reign in the Soviet Union.

The only good leader, Lenin. All the others were not so great ... After Stalin I would choose Andropov.

Wait, Ho Chi Minh does count right? After all, what communists that have taken power not really been of the Soviet nature? If we are talking about the Soviet Union itself, I might have to say Brezhnev.

I consider Stalin the greatest leader of all time in history and Lenin the greatest revolutionary of all time. Lenin did not live long enough to make a difference in the Soviet Union besides laying the foundation of the country. It was my mistake when I made this topic to say excluding Stalin or Lenin.
