Soviet Seinfeld would have been SO awesome! So what's the deal w/ the politburo? Kramer would have been the zany neighbor, always falling in for capitalist schemes. Hilarious.

That one was good
. In Hungary the put lots of American sitcoms and detective series on the television (with terrible dubbing). But than again Hungary was the most liberal, easy going Warsaw-pact Country, by Warsaw-pact standards, that is!

Russians have great cartoons, and their soundtracks are very popular. Most of the Russians I know sing songs on holidays, and one of them is "Pesnya Pro Zaici" from Brilliantovaya Ruka. It's pretty funny
.

There's also one called, Nu, Pogodi! It's like Tom & Jerry or Wile E. Coyote cartoons, only it's about a rabbit and a wolf.

I'd love to, but I'm not sure how to capture a screenshot of a video. They usually get scrambled or show up as blue screens...

If someone knows how to get around this, please clue me in.

Bugger.

Ah well.

Some Hungarian cartoons are good, but sometimes they are a bit too sugary. But there are some that are incredibly funny, but you have to be a Hungarian and be able to speak Hungarian to get the jokes.

I was reading that in the late/mid 80s the Soviets produced their own version of Spitting Image called 'Kukliy' It went on for a long time after the UK version had ended, don't know if it's still going today but I believe it was on PTP after the USSR was destroyed.

I know that in the late 1980s and early 1990s there were a lot of Western cartoons and childrens series coming into the USSR (particularly Disney).

Yes, that was on NTV, I think, until 2003, when NTV changed management.

Four tankman and a dog, 17 moments of spring, were soviet serials... Most Soviet TV was about detectives or war.

I'd say the best aspect of Soviet TV would be movies. They are just different than American movies. A lot of movies don't even have a bad guy.

The russian/soviet comedy is kinda different... It's all British to me!
