I was watching CBC and it had a special show on NK which had a inquiry about the standard of life there and almost every one said it wasnt as bad as the world thought it was. This test was conducted in every region of NK and I wonder if they are being loyal to Kim Jong Il?

I would doubt that. As much as I don't approve of the ruling policies of the royal family in DPRK, I would doubt that things are as bad as the media has said.

i dont see why things would be as terrible as the media states, because if they are, the government wouldn't benefit anyway.

hereditary dictatorship, close enough :P

though, one of the posts was right in saying power is seperated among a couple of officials, but kim jong could be seen as pretty much a full-powered monarch :P

Comrades, as our great Lenin once said, the freedom of the press is owned by the rich, and the ruling class, to set out whatever they see fit to be broadcast to the working class, it is, in it's form free, but dialectically, it is corrupt, run by bribery and whoever pays the most amount of money for a story. Well, something along those lines.

The bad media rap about DPRNK is most definitely aimed to make people not consider any communistic thought whatsoever, as to make such people believe that communism is a bad, evil thing that leads you to be your own captor, which is absolute nonsense

Yes, listen to the chef. I have seen very little of actual fact to make me believe the lies about the DPRK spread by the western media is actual fact. Let me see, what would I rather believe? Actual documents and photographs saying that conditions in the DPRK are a-o.k. or baseless claims that it is an ‘evil commie country’ with ‘weapons of mass destruction’ which is the more common representation of it in the West?

Think about what kind of stories are on the media in a Capitalist country. Stories about the good things in the world are few and far between. In local media you get stories about murders in the nearest city but you at least get the sports and some nice local events to brighten things up. In world news (at least in America) you get all of the stories about bombings, wars and security threats, none of the nice items in the world, nothing that shows how other countries actually have a good standard of living. The media just wants money and ratings off of the big stories, they don’t care if they skew the truth or not.

DPRK citizens aren’t being repressed. Don’t cite their military as a reason otherwise, look how many countries are hostile to it. If they didn’t have a large army to protect themselves I’m sure Capitalist countries would have walked all over them long ago. Besides, they often take the Technocratic solution to supplying arms and just make the weapons without worrying about money. Other problems such food shortages I’m sure you’ve heard western media over-hype is more of the fault of the Capitalists than the DPRK, as I’ve explained in this thread.

Yeah, it's odd how the ruling powers seems to circle entirely around the Kim family. Or that they built up a "philosophy" about how focusing on the leader is mankind's greatest hope. Have I mentioned that Juche rejects marxism as a viable political movement?

Exactly my point, "global" news just concentrates of evils of other countries, like the sudanese crisis, the coverage from the BBC makes the arabian populance seem like genocidal maniacs! "arab militias", for example.
Like after Chernobyl, another example, many western newspapers issued reports of thermo-nuclear warheads detonating and flattening huge parts of the local area and of mass deaths!
Which is one of the reasons the Soviet authorities didnt issue a statement about the incident for some time after, as the story had to be known before anything was said about it!
Perhaps another gimmick to stop people thinking about communism as the way forward (, which, if imperialism is the highest form of capitalism, why have so many empires collapsed in the past 100 years? Because the principles of it don't work!)

Juche incorporates Marxist theory, but yes, it does basically deny that Marxism "as we know it" is viable anymore. And that's just wrong.

actually, i'd have to say, although its definately not pro-bush, its pro-american hegemony. its also supporting any allegations that north korea is possesing pure nuclear weapons.

so its supporting the western course, but not bush himself. so i guess its better in a way.

In my opinion, the North Koreans are either crazy, or brainwashed. I've watched a movie about PRNK and what I saw was horrible! The totalitarian communism in it's worst form! Everybody kept saying how great was their Great Leader Kim... I'm a devoted socialist, but North Korea is a country where I don't want to live.

Yep. *pretentious, dramatic voice* because I dared to be different! Nah basically I made a slight critisism and he'd said "I'll report you!" Is he still around by the way? I thought he left because of us Nazi fascist cosmopolitans who didn't bow to the Vaterland, Great Russia.

He pops up every once in a while on the smaller forums. But yeah, he claimed that because we didn't support the nazbols we must be fascists. He must be using some kind of über logic that I can't comprehend.

And on what do you base this preposterous allegation which flies in the face of everything we know about north Korea?

How a self-described socialist could buy so heavily into anti-communist propaganda, I do not know.

Look, I don't want to argue, OK? I'll just give some examples.
1)The movie is made by one of the most prestigious journalists in my country, so I'm sure its' not propaganda.
2)Everybody, I mean EVERYBODY hailed their Great Leader Kim, even the buddhistic monks, even a woman who hasn't probably seen a dentist in her life.
In my opinion, comrade, North Korea is NOT a communist state - it's a medieval prison where the worker class is exploited by capitalists (did you know that Kim and his close ones are the only ones to have Mercedesses, cell phones etc?). But if you like NK - I've no problem with that.
