I was wondering what the names of some soviet movies where the U.S. or NATO was portrayed as evil invaders? Similar to America's movie "red dawn" but from a soviet point of view instead.

Im surprised noone mentioned "Tank Klim Voroshilov 2" movie yet (1990 year release). This is a very psychological movie and it tells us about the june-july 1941 time and a group of 4 soviet soldiers/citizens which are trying to escape from the approaching germans. You can check it out here (free torrent): http://film.arjlover.net/info/tank.klim ... 2.avi.html
Its for russian speakers only and i doubt there are any translations on the web tho
.

SPOILERS

A young cadet-commisar finds the abandoned secret KV 2 tank and decides to form a tank crew to with his fellow travellers: a school teacher, a reservist and a young boy. The crew is running very low on fuel and has no ammo and finally the tank gets stuck on the wooden bridge. Every person has its own story and own motives and the movie portraits the relationships between the members of an improvised tank crew vividly as they are trying to get their tank out of river and repair it/get ammo and fuel. The movie is very realistic and is a very good 3rd-person point of view without (imo) any propaganda. The goal of the movie is to show a realistic psychological situation in the tank crew and generally in belorussia in june-july 1941, not politics.

I’m serialising Soviet films and actors under the life back in the USSR section please take a look. Most former Soviet citizens don’t really watch the early avangaurd stuff they’ve got a very rich pop culture that I’m writing about. Do take a look comrades!

For a documentary, look for Blockade (which I believe is the siege of Leningrad, though the city isn't named). Some parts are hard to watch--it's actual war footage--and the impact comes through very strongly. There is no soundtrack, though street sounds occasionally filter through. I watched it on a slow connection, where frames would freeze at intervals--and the "pause" effect only added to the drama.

I can't recommend this film strongly enough, but it's definitely not for the squeamish.

Is there a possibility to watch these movies, especially "Come and see", online with english subtitles? I have found it to be extremely difficult to find Soviet movies online with subs.

There's an excellent website called the Socialist Film Review http://www.socialistfilms.org/ that reviews films from various socialist countries. It hasn't been updated in some time.

It is also what inspired my website the Left Film Review http://leftisminfilm.wordpress.com

Good film. I'm not sure if I understand you correctly, but the problem in this movie is universal across any country and any system. In a cooperative or corporate situation, it's a fact that the worst in people can often come out.

A silly and terrible movie. I am honestly amazed that it was even made, and feel somewhat embarrassed that the Soviet film industry stooped to such low levels. By the way, I wonder if there are any similar films. I am yet to come across one.

He asked for a "Red Dawn" type of stuff. And that film fits the bill: action focused and portraying Americans as evil war-mongering bogeyman bad guy villains from a propaganda poster, and doing a good job at it.

I know comrade.
I was just stating my opinion that stooping to 'Red Dawn' type cinematography didn't really work well for this film. Lack of realism, bland direction and the over the top villainy didn't really help either, in my view.

Soviet war films were always of a high quality. They are very touching for some unknown reason. They do not show so much the shooting and special effects, more the human side and the camraderie between the soldiers. I like those ones with Leonid Bykov. They are very real because they play on the actual emotions of the Soviet audience.
