Scottish Communists meeting at the weekend welcomed the release of Abdelbaset Ali Mohmed al Megrahi from Greenock prison. However with withdrawal of his latest appeal there is now little chance of a public enquiry and the truth of the Lockerbie atrocity being exposed. His conviction was based mainly on the identification by an individual who received a several million dollar US payout. The atrocity was probably in retaliation to the shooting down of the Iranian Airbus in 1988 killing 290 innocents with the Iranian connection being ignored by the US as it was about to invade Iraq in the first Gulf war.

The hail of abuse directed by the US and others at the Scottish Government who refused to be bullied by the US, need to recall that the the crew of the USS Vincennces who shot down the Iranian Airbus where given a heroes welcome when they returned to port in San Diego.

Kenny MacAsgill the Scottish Justice minister made the correct decision albeit the divine retribution of Magrhi's terminal illness claims were frankly embarrassing.

The Scottish Committee also elected Tom Morrison as its new Secretary.

Ilyich had a most profound faith in the class instinct of the proletariat, its creative forces, its historic mission. This faith was not born in a day. It became moulded in him during years when he had studied & meditated Marx's theory of class struggle.
