I believe Lenin saw Russia as the weakest link in the chain of global capitalism in the early 20th century. I'm looking around now and I'm struggling to see a weak link myself. Perhaps I'm not as informed about the societies of many imperialist countries in the world but where is the weak link today? Does one even exist?

It depends... What do you mean by 'weakest link'?

Well Iceland could be. Aren't they completely bankrupt?

Oh I get it now. You can cross out America and Europe off the list. I really can't see any rise of the left wing in the first world. However I feel that Latin America can hold the weakest link. They already have Chavez and Morales, though they're nowhere near Fidel.

Latin America has always been a candidate communist revolution. Che tried to spread it, but he got killed. That's why as much as I think Red Dawn was a stupid movie I like how in the back story all of Latin America is communist under Cuban influence.

What I meant was this was around the time when the Soviet Union was referred to as an evil empire and such.

Many thinks a revolution in Russia may happen soon rather than later, South Africa is potentially if the SACP strenghtens and the NDR fails to move ahead with accceptable pace.
But I would say Venezuela is closest today. "For us there is no valid definition of socialism other than the abolition of the exploitation of one human being by another."
Well Chavez and Fidel are buddies aren't they?

Fidel and Chavez are compañeros.
"For us there is no valid definition of socialism other than the abolition of the exploitation of one human being by another."
But Chavez isn't really a communist.

Doesn't matter. He wants to build socialism, and if he succeeds, there is nothing to criticize.

He's declared himself communist several times, as well as socialist and even peronist. The revolution is moving foward in Venezuela, slowly but steady. There's a radicalization of the bolivarian revolution, leading the way to socialism, as any communist leader would do it.

Some believe that Venezuela isn't on the path to Socialism because Chavez's government didn't come to power through a violent revolution. I urge caution on such a position. For one, I believe that a violent revolution may be coming, but that it won't be started by the proletariat. Rather, it will the Bourgeoisie which feels its position is increasingly threatened. Secondly, it seems quite clear that a revolutionary class conciousness is developing among the Venezuelan people. They should have our backing, just as they have Cuba's.
No I just don't know what Venezuela does that's socialistic. Then again I don't know much about Venezuela.

We can't see what is the current weakest link in the chain now. We need an another World War to see what is the weakest link in the chain, Great Depression doesn't help.
In my opinion, Russia is the weakest link, still. "Stalin brought us up — on loyalty to the people, He inspired us to labor and to heroism!" Soviet Anthem 1944.

Quote: It's time that you went to Google Video and did a search for "The Revolution Will Not Be Televised." I would put the video on the forum, but apparently embed is not a possibility here. Chavez is the first person that has ever done a damn thing for the people in Venezuela. Many of my comrades support him, but are skeptical because it is building socialism through reform. It appears to be working for the most part, but there are still many battles ahead. As mentioned above, the bourgeoisie are the ones likely to have a violent revolution. As you will see in the documentary, it has already been tried before. The military tried to overthrow the Chavez government with the full support of the private sector media. You should just watch the film and I'll stop typing... |
