Dear forum-readers, please rate Top10 socialist states of all times.
I shall refrain from putting my Top10 due to my experience here - I was always accused of being whatever-centric and stuff. I got this idea from two recent threads where certain forum readers defend their beliefs about the superiority of this-or-that socialist country.

I don't know if I can do a Top 10 of these. Obviously, the USSR is the state where the potential to achieve Socialism was most fully realized...so far. Of course, there were other places such as Yugoslavia where a fair degree of prosperity and equality were achieved for a time. Cuba has stayed true to its ideals to a large extent. Vietnam seems to be slowly gaining in prosperity as well. We'll see what happens in Latin America.

There have never been any socialist states.

USSR 6/10
Poland 3/10 GDR 8/10 ČSSR 7/10 SFRY 6/10 Albania 3/10 Bulgaria 3/10 Romania 2/10 Cuba 5/10 China 4/10 Not counting Democratic Kampucheas and other such entities...
In no order, I'd say: The Soviet Union, East Germany, SFR Yugoslavia, Cuba, and maybe Czechoslovakia. I only decided to pick five states because most other ones I can think of I wouldn't really call socialist. China and Vietnam nowadays is more capitalist than anything, and other states like North Korea or "Democratic" Kampuchea are far too repressive to even be considered for inclusion.

Under communism, there is no freedom; you are not free to live in poverty, be homeless, to be without an education, to starve, or to be without a job
USSR 0/10
Poland 1/10 GDR 1/10 ČSSR 1/10 SFRY 1/10 Albania 1/10 Bulgaria 1/10 Romania 1/10 Cuba 5/10 China 0/10 Cuba is probably the closest country that has ever touched socialism, the rest of the "socialist" states where just state capitalist. ![]()
Why is Cuba, where private businesses have been legal for years, somehow not state capitalist ( whatever you mean by that ) unlike all these other countries? The Cuban revolution wasn't even a proletarian one and Cuba had for decades been for all intents and purposes a semi colony of the USSR.
Eire wrote: Why is the USSR one of the lowest-ranked states on there? They were one of the most powerful and most advanced countries of all time. State capitalist? I hardly think so. The USSR had an centralized planned economy throughout nearly all its history.
Yeah, it's weird that someone would rate Albania and Bulgaria higher than the USSR.

But the Soviet planning system had a profit indicator! Plus social imperialism and blah blah...In conclusion, a planned economy, the absence of private capital ownership, no speculative stock markets, no vast rift in salary between management and workers, etc. all of this is irrelevant.

These things didn't exist in Albania and Bulgaria either. I don't think that's the reasoning.

It's that Eire is anti-Russian and has said as much in other threads. I think it has more to do with his newness to Marxism than anything.

They come around from time to time and even I dabbled in anti-Russian sentiment. Although all mature marxists realize this is chauvinism pure and simple.

I will give this list another try:
USSR Under Lenin: 9/10 USSR Under Stalin: 0/10 (Disgusting man, enemy to all proletariat, and murdering pig) USSR Under Khrushchev 7/10 USSR Under Brezhnev: 9/10 USSR Under Andropov: 6/10 USSR Under Chernenko: 6/10 USSR Under Gorbachev: 1/10 Poland 7/10 GDR 8/10 ČSSR 8/10 SFRY 9/10 Albania 0/10 (Horrible, Hoxha was insane) Bulgaria 8/10 Romania before Ceausescu 7/10 Romania during Ceausescu 0/10 (An enemy of the proletariat and murdering pig) Cuba 9/10 China During Mao 0/10 (Mao was insane like his friend Stalin and former friend Hoxha) China after Mao 2/10 (Better the Mao, but still horrible) SORRY ABOUT THE ABOVE LIST WHERE I GAVE EVERYONE 1s and 0s, I left Marxism for sometime because I felt enraged at the wide support for stalinism and juche. ![]()
Where you see support for Great Purges and Juche, I see promoting proletarian cultural hegemony and defending a people against the ravages of imperialism. Really non-Korean jucheists are like almost non-existent.

Too bad Stalin eradicated Proletkult, eh.
