Batka is clearly having delusions of grandeur and megalomanical tendencies, as evident by the need that he felt like saying something like that.
Also the part about "Soviet Empire" is ridiculous. Last edited by Loz on 16 Oct 2012, 23:22, edited 1 time in total.
Lukashenko has never been afraid of saying what he means -it's part of his populist persona. He has always gone out of his way to note the tragedy that the destruction of the USSR was for the region and the world, and has never created any insulting formulations ala Putin's 'whoever doesn't miss the Soviet Union has no heart, whoever wants it back has no brain.'

It is good to hear a bourgeois politician(as Lukashenko is) being honest.
The independent path of Belarus and Alexander Lukasjenko have been supported by the communist movement, who have defended the independence of Belarus against the attempts to destabilize the country by the imperialist US-EU-NATO . The two communist parties of Belarus which can be regarded as communist, the CPB(PKB) and the CPWB(BKTP) have slightly different approaches to the government of Lukasjenko. While the CPB almost totally support Lukasjenkos policies, the CPWB have taken a more critical stance towards Lukasjenkos policies. The CPB is currently represented as the Belarus section of the international communist movement in the International Meeting of Communist and Workers Parties. The CPWB is not yet officially represented, but participated in the 2nd European Communist Meeting which were held recently in Brussels. The Paris Communards struggled and died in the defense of their ideas. The banners of the revolution and of socialism are not surrendered without a fight. Only cowards and the demoralized surrender — never Communists and other revolutionaries.
Lukashenko has a point. I don't know that I can defend Stalin, but Lenin had the right idea. Every single leader in the history of the world makes mistakes, Lenin among them. But he was fighting for a better Russia, and to a large degree accomplished it. To acknowledge that is only to admit reality. As for wanting the USSR back, I suppose that all depends on your point of view. I think the Baltic States and the Ukraine might disagree, but some of the other 11 Republics might understandably miss the USSR.
