Displayed in the venues of photo exhibitions were photos on the undying feats performed by President Kim Il Sung and General Secretary Kim Jong Il in founding and developing the DPRK and the Korean people's struggle for the building of a thriving nation.
Speeches were made at the functions.
Pham Tat Dong, chairman of the Vietnam-DPRK Friendship Association, said that the Vietnamese and Korean peoples have long developed the friendly and cooperative relations provided and cultivated by President Ho Chi Minh and Kim Il Sung, adding that the Vietnamese people have expressed full support to the fraternal Korean people in socialist construction and cause of national reunification.
Kong Sam Ol, deputy prime minister in charge of the Royal Palace of Cambodia, said that the Korean people have achieved eye-opening successes in building a thriving nation under the leadership of Kim Jong Il and hoped that they would register fresh successes in their efforts to open the gate to a thriving socialist nation in a few years to come, true to the behest of Kim Il Sung.
The director general of the Kim Il Sung Institute of Agricultural Science in Guinea highly praised Kim Il Sung as the father of the nation-building who built a socialist power which is standing firm in any storm and stress and the first country of the people in the history of the Korean nation spanning 5,000 years.
Kim Il Sung, Founder of DPRK
Pyongyang, September 8 (KCNA) -- The national flags of the Republic are fluttering in streets and residential quarters of the DPRK on the occasion of its 61st founding anniversary (September 9).
Seeing the national flag, the servicepersons and people of Korea are retrospecting with deep emotion the immortal feats of President Kim Il Sung for nation-building.
The President in his teens made a historic resolve not to return home before Korea had become independent and embarked on the road of revolution. He waged sanguinary anti-Japanese war for 20 years and thus liberated the country by force of arms.
As soon as he returned in triumph, he put his heart and soul into the work for building a new Korea without taking a rest even a day after the anti-Japanese war, thus successfully accomplishing the historic cause of founding the Party and army.
He, at the same time, energetically pushed ahead with the work for founding the Democratic People's Republic of Korea.
Under his outstanding leadership, the constitution, name, national emblem and national flag of the DPRK were instituted.
With the foundation of the DPRK by the President in September Juche 37 (1948), the Korean people became the master of the state and society for the first time in the 5,000-year-long history, the independent and creative people who pave a new era of history, taking their destiny in their hands and the dignified people that no one dare pounce upon them.
The DPRK came to proceed into the international arena on an equal par with countries, big or small, holding aloft the banner of Juche as a full-fledged independent and sovereign state.
The exploits performed by the President for founding the DPRK are shining under the leadership of Kim Jong Il, peerless brilliant commander of Songun.
Under the wise leadership of him who is devoting himself for the construction of a rich and powerful country and the happiness of the people, the DPRK is displaying its might as a powerful socialist state of Juche and the September 9 will be the holiday of Songun Korea for ever.
Democratic People's Republic of Korea
Hail the 61st Anniversary of the
Founding of the DPRK!
September 9, 2009 marks the 61st anniversary of the founding of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK). On the Korean peninsula, as well as abroad, the Korean people are marking this anniversary with revolutionary enthusiasm and using the occasion to step up the struggle to affirm the DPRK's right to be in the face of U.S. imperialist war threats and nuclear blackmail, to defend peace on the Korean peninsula and to advance their nation-building project of national reunification.
The founding of the DPRK on September 9, 1948 was an event of great historical significance for the Korean people and the peoples of the world. It enabled Koreans to bring forth a dignified, independent nation, carving out their own destiny for the first time in their 5,000-year-long national history.
For 61 years since its founding, the DPRK has had an arduous road to travel, but one that has been marked by great victories and contributions to humanity's struggle for peace and progress. Its unflinching struggle against U.S. imperialism and the U.S. military occupation of south Korea continues to be an inspiration to all the oppressed and exploited peoples of the world.
Emerging from armed struggle to end Japanese military occupation in Korea (1910-1945) and playing a decisive role in the defeat of the Axis powers in the Second World War, the victorious Korean people under the leadership of General Kim Il Sung and the Korean People's Army and other patriotic forces were enthusiastically building a modern democratic state from the ruins of war and taking their destiny into their own hands. Across the country, People's Committees were formed and the Korean people elected their representatives to a People's Assembly in August-September 1945 which proclaimed the "Korean People's Republic" on September 6, 1945. The Korean People's Republic was short-lived because U.S. imperialist troops arrived two days later and true to the Cold War Truman Doctrine of the "containment of communism" and securing "U.S. interests" on the Korean peninsula, declared the Korean People's Republic illegal and began to dismantle the People's Committees by force. In the words of U.S. General Douglas MacArthur, Korea was to be an "anti-communist bulwark."
Over the next three bloody years, through a campaign of mass terror and brutality, the U.S. imperialists criminalized, killed and imprisoned hundreds of thousands of communists, "leftists" and other patriots who were actively resisting the brutality of the U.S. and affirming their collective right to self-determination. The U.S. organized a fraudulent "free and fair" election in May 1948, installed the U.S. puppet Syngman Rhee in power to the outrage of the entire Korean people, and declared the Republic of Korea in the south on August 15, 1948.
To guarantee the revolutionary base of the Korean people and to ensure the future of the nation, Kim Il Sung declared the founding of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea on September 9, 1948 in Pyongyang.
In order to take over the entire Korean peninsula as a beachhead to wage war against China and the Soviet Union in order to take over the whole world, the U.S. provoked a civil war and waged its war of aggression from 1950 to 1953 in which more than four million Korean civilians were killed and massive destruction caused to the economy and infrastructure. The United States and other countries, including Canada took part in this war of aggression against the Korean people on the basis of the lie of intervening in an international conflict. They committed crimes against the peace, crimes against humanity and untold war crimes including the military massacres of civilians, the use of biological and chemical weapons, fire-bombing of various northern cities with no thought to civilian casualties and so on. The DPRK, though still in its infancy, defeated the U.S. in the war and successfully defended the independence of the country and sovereignty of the nation.
DPRK leader President Kim Il Sung said at the time: "The victory of our people in the Korean War was a victory of the revolutionary people over the imperialist forces, a victory of the revolutionary army over the aggressive forces of imperialism. It proved that the people who rise up for freedom, independence and progress, taking their destiny into their own hands under the leadership of a Marxist-Leninist party, will never be conquered by any imperialist forces of aggression. It also exposed the vulnerability and corruptness of U.S. imperialism, demonstrating to the oppressed nations of the world that U.S. imperialism is by no means an unconquerable enemy and that they too can definitely fight and defeat it."
The DPRK then as now has been able to overcome the most severe trials placed before it with the leadership of the Workers' Party of Korea, led first by President Kim Il Sung and now by General Secretary Kim Jong Il. The July 25, 1953 victory over the U.S., like the many decades since, has shown the DPRK to be a bulwark against U.S. imperialism, itself a profound contribution to world peace. The U.S. today is as active as ever in pursuing its efforts to conquer the whole of the Korean peninsula so as to dominate all of Asia. Standing firm against the might of the U.S. military empire -- known for its use of nuclear, chemical and biological weapons worldwide -- the DPRK continues to affirm not only the right of all nations to self-determination and self-defence, but its confidence in victory against any aggressive force.
In its conduct in the Six-Party Talks to Denuclearize the Korean Peninsula which began in 2003, the DPRK has been broad-minded and principled in working together with Russia, China, Japan, south Korea, and the U.S. to achieve the denuclearization of the Korean peninsula peacefully despite the intransigence and treachery of the U.S. and its main ally in the Far East, Japan, to sabotage and scuttle this important diplomatic initiative to secure peace and stability on the Korean peninsula and East Asia.
Even in the face of the double-standards of the UN Security Council and its many unjust resolutions against the DPRK, the latter has steadfastly stood on principle and affirmed its right to be. Proposal after proposal from the government of the DPRK to the U.S. to sign a Peace Treaty to replace the 1953 Armistice Agreement that ended the fighting in the Korean War have been repeatedly rejected by the U.S. government including the current Barak Obama administration, amply illustrating who truly stands for peace and security on the Korean peninsula.
t is the DPRK and its leadership that have been the decisive force in the movement for Korean reunification. All initiatives and proposals for the reunification of Korea since 1945 have been inspired by the leadership of the DPRK which has put forward the principle that Korean reunification can only be achieved by the Korean people, by their own efforts, peacefully and without outside interference.
That the struggle of the Korean people for their right to be brings great honour and dignity to them as a people, and to all of humanity, is also seen in the bright prospect which continues to be opened by their protracted efforts to achieve the peaceful, independent reunification of the nation. As expressed in the June 15 North-South Joint Declaration of 2000 and in the October 4, 2007 Declaration for the Development of North-South Relations and Peace and Prosperity, the Korean people, north, south and worldwide, are united as one people, one nation, irrespective of ideological or other considerations, in achieving reunification through peaceful means and through their own efforts, without outside interference.
On this occasion, the Communist Party of Canada (Marxist-Leninist) salutes the struggles of the Korean people and the principled and resolute stand of the DPRK and its leadership in defence of the national rights to independence, sovereignty and self-reliance. The heroic advances of the Korean people have shown repeatedly that it is the peoples, not the imperialists and their wars, which are decisive in making history. In this spirit, as one humanity engaged in one struggle for our right to be, we reiterate our immediate demands: U.S. Troops Out of Korea! Reparations Now for U.S. Crimes Against the Korean People! Sign a Peace Treaty to Replace the Armistice Agreement Now!
