A while back I read an old Soviet joke from the Stalinist era. It had to do with the NKVD; something about residents thinking that the NKVD was knocking on their door, but it turned out it was fire... I don't know exactly, but if anyone had the full joke, it's be much appreciated.
Plus, if anyone has more I'd love to hear them!

Thank you,
Red Specter.

It is the middle of the night. There is a knock at the door. Everyone leaps out of bed. Papa goes shakily to the door. ‘It’s all right,’ he says, coming back. ‘The building’s on fire.’
