Any Soviet-Eastern Bloc automobile enthusiasts here?

One question..

What is the difference between a Lada and a Zhiguli? They both look rather similar. A Sputnik looks rather different than the Zhiguli and Lada. Is a Zhiguli just an improved version or vice versa?

Zhiguli is the AvtoVAZ brand for the USSR and the domestic market and Lada is the export brand. Zhiguli sounds a bit like goolies which is supposedly the British slang for balls.
There's no difference between the two but i'd assume Ladas were better built.
