I think rage against the machine has socialist lyrics. I'm not sure but I know they are left wing and they made a music video about the shining path. Also they are more of a rap-metal or funk-metal band but they are still metal they are heavy. and I rember reading about a black metal dude who's a Stalinist communist but I think he might of been killed by the guy from Burzum I forget.

some guy recommended dying fetus to me, albeit i don't really like it, it's decent though. and they are radical left, i didnt know that. i thought most socialist black metal sucked( though nsbm ain't better) but wolves in the throne room is one of my favorite anymore. i heard there iskra asblack metal band though i haven't heard much. most socialist black metal is from the ambient or atmosheric genre.

The oldest and most respected soviet band with a pro-bolshevik period is Grazdanskay Oborona, from Siberia /Гражданская Оборона, transl. 'Citizen Defense'/
The main guy behind the music and ideas was the guitarist/vocalist Egor Letov, RIP 2008
In 1985 the first few home-made demos were recorded, the KGB cracked down and Letov spent a few months in a mental hospital. Apparently oblivious to how the CIA's LSD experiments created inadvertedly an anti-establishment transcedental movement, the soviet doctors pumped Letov with psychedelics and deliriants. Perhaps he would have remained on the level of crude punk rock had they not done that.

The three ideological periods of the band roughly correspond to the decades of its existence:
1980's - anarchist period. Notable songs: Poganaya Molodez; I Snova Temno
1990's - bolshevik period. Notable songs: Eshe Nemnogo; Ubivat.
2000's - psychedelic psychonaut period. Notable songs: Slava Psihonavtam; Vse Eto s Toboi.

this is a link to a site where after about three clicks the songs can be downloaded one by one:
http://musicmp3.spb.ru/allsongs/1512/gr ... orona.html

place two for downloads: http://muzjaka.ru/authors/526.html. Press a song, then a bunch of text in cyrillic will appear. The first line of fat green letters is the download link.

Enjoy

I'd like to show you a trash/folk metal band from the UK.
Their lyrics are always very political as you can see in these videos:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jliSWxcGWA8 Skyclad - Inequality Street
Lyrics:
Quote:
Life's really a chocolate box-
some do without - others have plenty.
It sticks in my throat - my stomach's in knots,
while your box is so full - mine's perpetually empty.
From the cradle to the grave,
point your ladle to the gravy.
"Food comes first, then morals" they say,
the end of the world's three hot meals away.
Two average men eat their average meals
but destiny waits at their table.
One is served gruel while the other chews veal,
(But they're both spoon fed lies from the cradle).
Life's really a chocolate box -
some do without - others have plenty.
It sticks in my throat - my stomach's in knots,
while your box is so full - mine's perpetually empty.
Tragic moments for the masses -
work is the curse of the drinking classes
'homo homini lupus' we cry -
humanity fades like the moon in the sky.
You can't cook an omelette without breaking eggs,
(first they are cracked and then beaten).

The only things cracked around here are our heads,
recipies for disaster that we keep repeating.
Life's really a chocolate box -
some do without - others have plenty.
It sticks in my throat - my stomach's in knots,
while your box is so full - mine's perpetually empty.
Here's a real beggars banquet,
a brace of rats in a blood stained blanket
meanwhile, gentlefolk high in their chateau,
dip silver spoons into black forest gateau.
Come lords and ladies - raise glasses in toast
to the 'other - half' dying to eat.
'Cause they who receive least deserve it the most,
it's a literal dead - end (Inequality Street).
Life's really a chocolate box -
some do without - others have plenty.
It sticks in my throat - my stomach's in knots,
while your box is so full - mine's perpetually empty.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IVJkVCWX ... re=related Skyclad - The Parliament Of Fools
Lyrics:
Quote:
All the seats are taken in the house that makes the rules
All the seats are taken in 'The parliament of fools'

The discontented winter howeld, when I first came up to vote
They swept in on a sea of change, but I'm glad I missed their boat
As communities were taxed and torn, utilities got floated
And for eighteen years the 'true blue' cause
prevailed and was promoted
How do you cast your vote in a parliament of fools ?
How do you cast your vote in a parliament of fools ?

How I took me off a college for to learn philosophy
Studied Paine and Machiavellin spin and sophistry
But coming from a county that was redin tooth and claw
For a one-horse-race some lobby-fodder-donkey
was brought forth
How do you cast your vote in a parliament of fools ?
How do you cast your vote in a parliament of fools ?

All the seats are taken in the house that makes the rules
All the seats are taken in 'The parliament of fools'

Armed ith this liberal knowledge, I set off to London town
To see 'the seat of wisdom' and hear justice handed down
Not 'a semblance of normality', an assembly of insanity
I'll not become a member of of this parliament most foul
How do you cast your vote in a parliament of fools ?
How do you cast your vote in a parliament of fools ?
Yes, all the seats are taken and our confidence is shaken
How do you cast your vote in a parliament of fools ?

Is there other kinds of commie music besides metal and punk?

Like commie disco, or goth, industrial, electroclash, or something?

Just wondering, not that i particularly like disco, but it would be intiresting none the less.

How about Rap and Hip Hop? No, not very metal to bring in rap, but it is worth a listen if you're open to it over ideology. Among one of their first named influences isn't even a musician - Huey P Newton, cofounder and leader of the US Communist group, The Black Panther Party for Self-Defense. There is a fairly rich tradition of American Hip Hop focusing on racial discrimination - which has long lent itself to Socialist and Communist ideologies.

Anyone who remembers comedian Dave Chappelle's sketch comedy show will find the beat to their most popular piece familiar:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LhnXAIwUehM

Mr Lif actually re-released his entire album "I Heard it Today" for free in solidarity with Occupy Oakland's mass strike - a demonstration which successfully shut down all commerce in the entire city. Immortal Technique focuses quite a bit on these issues as well - if you're into "I don't give f**k" Socialist Rap, I highly recommend his album "3rd World" and more recently "The Martyr" which he released for free.

Where Dead Prez has been absorbed into the movement for African American revitalization in the US, and Mr Lif is playing with Anarchists on OWS, Immortal Technique only gets deeper into the ideology with time.

IT's page on his indy label: http://viperrecords.com/index.php/artis ... -technique and the direct link to the album, hosted for free by said label: http://www.viperrecords.com/mart/Immort ... Martyr.zip

I actually found this forum via a google search for Socialist Metal. The rap has it's place (some of it being stellar within Rap genre, even when we leave out the ideology), but finding Metal that shares my ideas is like coming home to find a close comrade has moved in next door.

Due to the lack of communist oriented lyrics, why not listen to some instrumental pieces and fill in the themes yourselves?

I love me some good ol jazz myself, and I'm guessing most people here would like some refined music, so I'd suggest that.
The way Thelonius Monk and most Bebop Jazz artists purpousely incorporate dissonance in their music forces you to pay attention to the music instead of it going inside one ear and going out the other, kind of like a protest or quest for the consonance and relief. Can be abstractly interpreted as a search for change or a representation of the human condition: to always be in an unstable state, striving for balance and things that fill us to ultimately reach stability and comfort. Now, I'm going waaaaaay off track and my ability to critic music ain't that good, but hey, keep the instability in mind and listen to Bebop. If it doens't do it for you, well, I tried

Misery Index is a death metal / grindcore band with explicit left wing lyrics in the Napalm Death tradition. Look up the lyrics to some of the stuff off the Retaliate album. It's good stuff.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yEzYRFRi8FE

Rising from the tide, a Kraken cloaked in wisdom, propagates his lies,
For love of living death...

As faith in leaders falter and dole-queues stretch for snake-like miles
Untruths in unwritten law annihilate imagination
Hope becomes a process, the intravenous feed
That's bound in tune with "progress" - in dialectic comedy

Problems rise in culture, where contradiction's known to breed
And puppeteers unquestioned string up the masses in their sleep
These guardians of comfort and selfishness decreed
Will deify convenience at all expense of every human need

The Lies that bind are lies unbinding...

More demagogues emerging, the paradise parade begins
Everything is perfect, and "time" is all we need to save
And just as oceans swallow, all ships that sink in time
This spectacle will crumble, from false and ill-conceived design

These fragile frames are breaking, and knots will soon come undone
The bloody fields of history have yet another war to come...
As chants turn into anthems, and shouts turn into battle cries
The statues of their heroes gone, crack and yield to newborn human lives

Tired of marching to their tune in time, the gears of oppression have ceased
No light at the end of the production line- show us that this life's worth living

Books are burning in the night, where consciousness is laid to rest
Another dream falls out of sight...and what have we to show for this?

The first such metal band that comes to mind is Otep. I'm not sure as to their exact ideology but they have released some songs with a revolutionary left message. Most notably, "Smash the Control Machine".
