He was banned long time ago, so probably never...

TATU isn't Rock! It's pop!

Electro-pop to be more precise.

The only song of theirs I know is about a dildo (robot).

They are deranged (as you can see from my last post), but robot is about a human-robot love relationship, not about a dildo (in both cases it would be deranged anyway
).

Red Rebel,

I know Interrupt_00h posted two Soviet Rock bands. But I guess they were deleted. Sorry.

Maybe "Eshelon" and "28 Panfilovtsev"? If that is the case, you can find them on the AKM web site (http://www.akm1917.org/, IIRC). You can also find there, the songs of a guy called "Ivan Baranov". All these are worth downloading.

Lube - modern patriotic & war songs. Especially old songs(5-15 years).

Yes, Liube is a very nice group. I have a small collection of their songs and I like all of them (especially Kombat).

'Pora damoy' has a catchy rock melody (Mind you that this isn't hard rock). Didn't that guy kill himself or something...

But yeah.. the Queen of music in Russia HAS to be Alla Pugacheva

Yes, I find it a contest of bad taste.

You must be kidding. I prefer Russian pop to any other pop in the entire world and I don't see why it should be labelled as funny.

What about Boris Grebenschikov's band Akvarium?

his early stuff(late70's early 80's) was rock and roll, an now he does progressive, for example for his new 2005 album Zoom Zoom Zoom, he went to Africa to find reggae musicians.

Also, Mashina Vremeni, although I don't listen to it that much, but it is a soviet rock legend!

Tovarishi! Try this site. http://www.grammy.ru/ It is down sometimes, but the downloads are incredible. Try the band "Kino" with Viktor Tsoi. Akvarium and Lyube are also great. "Poezd v Ogne" by Akvarium is a great song and also somewhat famous as it spoke against the Government and the Afghan War in the late 80's. For eye candy, but some catchy tunes, try Zhanna Friske and Blestachie....Bill G

Sounds great. Too bad the lyrics describe the city like a whore.

Yeah, but it's about just Russia. Nothing to do with communism or soviets.

My favourites:
1) Любэ, if im not mistaken i have all of their songs
2) ДДТ
3) Тсои
4) Машина Времени
5) Polkovnik by Bi 2 (their only good song)

In 80's people went crazy over Laskovij Mai (their concerts were completely sold out each time anywhere they went). Personally, i don't see what was so good.

I never listened to music much, and never for the purpose of enjoying it as a for of art. Only for the lyrics; that is why I like poetry more.
Of the one I do listen to sometimes are DDT, liube, pesnyari, mashina vremeni, alisa, and some others. Mostly though I listen to national folk songs.

I have the exact opposit, i listen for the music. Of course the vocal parts are integrated into the sound. But i do not understand a word of russian/korean/or any slavic language. Though i enjoy music from these regions the most. I also like German music, but thats because i can understand the lyrics and they make me cry
Especially the songs of the 50's, they're all about rebuilding the nation, in particular youth rebuilding the nation.
