what does dilapidated mean? also in a private prison, if there's an emergency and you can't pay, would they let you die?

also don't you usually share your cell with somebody? at least that's how it is in movies. what if he's an asshole who won't let you read and write in peace? also can you bring stuff like mp3 players or laptops?

Run down, old and beat up...

No, But they will back charge your books. So when you make money or if family puts money on your books, they get paid first.

not always. Some places have Dormitory style places where you have 50-100 cell mates. I was in lock down in prison the whole time so, I had no cell mate. It depends on the facility, your behavior and what you are in for.

you deal with it. when you can't deal with it anymore, you get into a fight with him and you both get sent to lock down and there, you will remain in peace, but with limited privileges.

You bring nothing. You can get TV's from commissary in some places. Computers are not allowed. Radios may be allowed in some places, but are state issued. newspapers are edited for content. Letters are really the only contact you have with the outside world.

i guess i'd prefer lock down over a dormitory. at least you can have a wank there without anybody noticing... or do they have cameras? also what about books, do they have libraries? and why are newspapers edited? what would they edit out?

only in the halls. Doors cannot be opened in lock down without certain protocol.

yes they do.

any and all information about anyone in the same facility you are in. cases that are in the papers are edited out. stuff like that mostly..

also is it true that most people in jail/prison are perfectly harmless, cool people who just got there because they got caught with weed? is it easy to make friends there?

cases are edited out to prevent profiling. Especially in cases involving women and children.

jail and prison do suck. There are, however many good people there that just did bad things. Me for instance.

protocol? Well, in lockdown, I couldn't go anywhere without two guards and wrist and ankle restraints. Also, no one could enter my cell with me in it unless a sergeant or higher rank was present. Even then, it was for shakedowns only.

Jail is a place for misdemeanor offenders and people awaiting sentencing on felonies. Prison is where you do real time. Convicted felons only. Murderers and rapists and crimes against humanity and that sort all end up in prison.

Work is in prisons. Jails do not have work programs in general.

So they'll give jobs to the worst, but not to the ones who've made mistakes and just want to get back on their feet?

That's Bull$#it!

what do you mean by profiling? my question was, is it to prevent people from knowing what another inmate did in prison? how do people know that anyway if you don't tell them.

profiling happens to people that are in for unsavory crimes like paedophilia or violence against women and children, etc. They are prone to have other inmates do violence against them..
