Guess this is my first topic here. Anyway...

Last week my uncle returned from Budapest and gave me this medal. My guess it's some sort of "labour medal", maybe couple decades old. All I found from the google was this:

http://teszvesz.hu/item208448215_a_vall ... gadja.html

It's like that except that the box is light red plastic and the medal and the pin are placed on a red velvet-like surface.

So, anyone know what it is and how old?

For good service service to the Socialist Brigade. What on earth was the socialist brigade? Assuming it says the same on yours to that one. Have you tried a word for word translation?

Thanks for the help.

I) I don't know. Sounds like some voluntary labour organisation.

II) It's the exact same medal set, just with a different kind of box. I haven't tried a word for word translation.

EDIT: Actually I noted a minor difference in the medal. In the picture I linked, the flag seems seems to be same mould with the rest of the medal. In the one I have, the flag is made of a separate piece that is jointed on to the "green pentagon" base, from which the flag protrudes by the thickness of the material.

Quote:
What on earth was the socialist brigade?

A socialist Brigade in hungary was a special type of "work brigade" which had been awarded the title socialist for suppassing production quotas, and serving as a model form of socialist life.

The work brigades were one of the dominant forms of organisation of labour in socialist Hungary, taking the form of a mixture of a publicly owned corporation and trade union. They incorporated a large amount of autonomy, and were largely in charge of organising their own internal activities and plans, while conforming to national labour laws, targets, and the national planned economy. To my understanding a similar system was used in the early USSR. The advantages of such a system was that it allowed the means of production to be publicly owned, eliminated the role of big capital in making decisions, and allowing a national planned economy while avoiding inefficiencies by delegating micro-management down to quasi-autonomous groups which would have incentives based upon the idea of socialist emulation.

Ill keep looking for info on the medal

So just shock workers. Stakhanov would have received a million labour medals.
