New guy butting his head in.

as an artist which I do have an hand at I agree that artists must have the skills and be willing to the work, however I also firmly believe one must have talent.
You could be technically perfect at playing the violin, but without talent, it's not music.

I am unfamiliar with how artists are treated in a communist society and what restrictions they have, but in a Western society there is a very good reason why you are called a "starving artist". Unless you are willing to prostitute yourself out corporations, ad companies, marketing giants, you are VERY hard pressed to have a modest standard of living as an artist. Many simply stop and face the realization that a pay cheque is not going to come from their artwork anytime soon. Unless they bow to the demands of the previously mentioned entities.

You mean everything can be called nice or ugly? I disagree. I couldn't apply these categories to 90% of the things I think of.

I know of somebody who submitted his entry to a photography contest. He submitted a picture of a fist whose nails were not only dirty but long. He placed second. If you want to see more of socialist realism, I suggest you browse through BLACK AND WHITE photography magazine. Beautiful works of art!

I love socialistic realism. It is some kind of pure and if I´m down it builts me up looking at my picture collection. For me socialistic art has something consoling, if my world breaks apart again. I don`t like the most modern arts. They are kitschy and sometimes disturbing, nothing upbuilding, somehow built for a short laughter in a sad world, but they don`t say *fight for a better future* like socialistic art did, exspecially here in my hometown.
