I am currently writing a paper dealing with the Moscow Art Theater's tour of America in 1923. Part of the argument I am posing is that the government had a vested interest in selling MXAT in New York with the aim of 1.) bringing foreign currency into Russia at a time when the rouble had been devalued on the international market, and 2.) reasserting themselves as one of the worlds culturally elite nations. I need sources that would help me prove that the Bolsheviks would have backed the theaters tour for these reasons (or perhaps some others unbeknownst to me at this point.)
