Hey there.
I hope I've got the right place for this, feel free to move it around if not! I'm a student in my third year of uni, and I'm writing my thesis. It covers Whitman and Allen Ginsberg, and therefore I need books on the American Civil War, and the Cold War. Thing is, I don't want to read and cite any neutral or right-wing books on the subject - I've managed to work my way through uni using plenty of Marxist/leftist books, but I'm at a bit of a loss to find any left-wing books concerning the Civil War or the Cold War. My theme in my thesis, and every other piece of work, has revolved around a Marxist analysis of the topics, and I'd like to continue in that vein - I'm a Literature student, and I'd love to go on to do a PhD in the same field, but it all falls on this thesis and how it's structured. Can anyone recommend any Marxist/left-leaning books on the American Civil War, and the Cold War? Thanks in advance! "America when will you be angelic?
When will you take off your clothes? When will you look at yourself through the grave? When will you be worthy of your million Trotskyites? America why are your libraries full of tears?" -Allen Ginsberg.
You can try checking out Leninist.biz as there are many Cold War-related books there:
http://leninist.biz/en/Text As for the Civil War, Marx and Engels wrote several articles on it: http://www.marxists.org/archive/marx/wo ... /index.htm
Thanks very much! There's some brilliant stuff on there. Much better than the crap I've been recommended by the uni - loads of rubbish glorifying "wonderful Americanism!"...
