Dear Comrades,
I wanted to know if any of you have read the historical works of M.N. Pokrovsky. I read about him in Fritz Stern's The Varieties of History. He one of a few Marxists included, aside from Marx, Engels and Jaures. According to this text, he wrote a five volume history of Russia from the earliest times. I wanted to consult it for his take on the relations between the Kiev State and Byzantium, Varangians, St. Vladmir and the rest. He seems, from Stern's book, to be a materialist historian, but it also mentions his purging by Stalin in 1934. If anyone has read him, would you recommend him as a source or not. Thanks JJ |
