The relative economic decline of the United States, Europe and Japan is often linked to the rise of an 'emerging' bloc comprising Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa demanding 'a seat at the table'. Yet as many of the world's leading left thinkers demonstrate in this important new book, the BRICS seem to be not so much overturning the tables of global capitalism, but as collaborating in holding them up.

The book's co-editors Patrick Bond from South Africa and Ana Garcia from Brazil will be joined by the two Toronto authors of chapters in the book in discussing how to understand where the BRICS fit on the most crucial global issues ranging from world finance to climate change.

Panel:
• Patrick Bond: University of KwaZulu Natal
• Ana Garcia: Federal Rural University of Rio de Janiero
• Judith Marshall: labour educator and researcher, formerly with United Steelworkers' Global Affairs Department
• Leo Panitch: York University

Sponsored by Centre for Social Justice, Socialist Project.

My personal opinion:

Just like they were in the 70s and 80s America would never economically decline. Every year they come up with something new. The emerging trends, latest fashion and the most popular fads are always invented by USA and Japan like the latest Toyotas which are very saleable nowadays, DELL and Apple Computers, etc. Who would have thought that title insurance would be a craze? As long as invention and creative imagination are encouraged through very very low taxes, the large number of companies that would emerge from such policies would over accommodate a labour force who would have the power to dictate their wages because of their high demand given that low taxes result in high pace of investments. Nurses in Canada immigrate to California because of high demand. Mobility to high income paying hospitals is easy like as if they are dictating their wages. American tourism is also a boom. Sorry to disappoint the speakers. It's mere wishful thinking. Not that I love America. I have all the reasons to hate America. They refused to hand me my green card. Guilt by association with Filipino communists which is a violation of the Bill of Rights.
