Some 160 supporters of communist and workers' parties of several countries demonstrated in Groningen last Saturday. Participants include the New Communist Party of the Netherlands, Workers' Party of Belgium, German Communist Party, Communist Party of Luxembourg, and the Swiss Party of Labour. The demonstration was followed by the 10th annual conference between the Dutch, German, Belgian, and Luxembourgish parties.

The slogan of the demonstration was "Stop the attacks on the working class - struggle is the only way out". This was the first independently organised communist demonstration in the Netherlands in decades. The attacks on the employment and living standards of the working class is acutely relevant in the province of Groningen. Furthermore, the exploitation of the gas field since the 1960s has massively benefited the state and capital, while the province itself has not benefited. Now the exploitation of natural gas is causing earthquakes, further endangering the population as well as the economic perspectives for the area.

After the demonstration, those not participating in the conference had the opportunity to take a historical guided tour of the city, visiting the many places associated with the rich history of the workers' movement, the anti-fascist resistance, and the Communist Party of the Netherlands in Groningen.

The demonstration ahead of the international conference follows the tradition initiated by the German comrades in Aachen last year: viewtopic.php?f=117&t=54096

As a communist in Netherlands, No 14, can you tell me the reason why those four parties often work together but not with the Communist Initiative of KKE? Do they have any disagreements? I am just curious...
"Stalin brought us up — on loyalty to the people, He inspired us to labor and to heroism!" Soviet Anthem 1944.
Let's work hard and do valorous deed!
