I argue that public universities should never be funded any more than they are now because they refuse to adapt. I could be in my dorm room watching a youtube video of my lecture instead of having to drive to school every day, wasting my time and money. For classes where participation is not required, such as math and sciences, all content should be available free online, with comprehensive testing available at little to no cost. Teachers unions hate this stuff, as it means a lot less work for them, however, we need to get money out of schools.
That's absurd. There isn't nearly enough money in education and acting like Internet courses are more effective is downright wrong. But no blame the teachers because they're an evil cabal conspiring to maintain their super-lucrative careers.

This is nonsense and would result in a further worsening of general education and hordes of ignorant and under-educated people leaving "school" (?) with worthless diplomas. Besides, schools are also places of socialization and upbringing. You can't really get that over the Internet.
Also, what the hell kind of math and science courses are you taking that don't require participation?
And get money out of schools? That's a laugh. ![]() Forum Rules Red_Son: Bob Avakian is the Glenn Beck of communism. It's funny you three don't recognize the values of independent study. Objective subjects don't require participation.
I agree that autonomous studies are worth much more than school - for some. I didn't learn most of what I know at school, but I would know even less about mathematics if I hadn't gone to school. Independent study only works with stuff you're interested in.
And really, if you think independent study will get you farther than going to class, why are you even in college? Surely you're paying money for something you think is a waste of time.

I think there's room for both types of learning. What we need though, is active, engaged, cooperative learning that encourages debate, critical thinking and asking questions.
