Protests Spread to Transport, defence Staff

Protesters holding a variety of banners and placards in front of the White House on Thursday. The rally was one of several nationwide against hikes in gasoline prices.


Transportation and civilian defence workers on Thursday became the latest groups to take to the streets in protest, with transportation industry associations staging nationwide rallies against gasoline price hikes and poor quality gasoline, while the defence workers demonstrated in Moscow for a salary raise.

These pensioners have lived under communist rule. They worked all there lives. Some may even be veterans of WW2. Now when it comes to when they retire, they have there pensions snatched away from them.

There is diffrence in "doing" and rioting on the streets.

Do you honestly think that the national bolsheviks would give a flying frag about some pensions? They are on the streets just to get attention, just like neonazis in Germany who demand justice to Dresden victims.

A blatant fool like you may not know it, but it DID work. Do you even know that a Russian pensioner can buy fewer products on his monthly pension than a prisoner of GULAG? I have information about rations in GULAGs, they are small but fair, and I also know how many roubles there are in an average pension and how much products cost. So I can easily back up my words. And just don't tell me that many people died in camps, I DO know the accurate numbers and I also know that Russia's population wondrously decreased by more than ten million during last thirteen years.

Actually, economy in Russia is growing every year, Russia ended 2003 with its fifth straight year of growth, averaging 6.5%, GDP - real growth rate: 7.3% (2004 est).

So if would understand anything about economy, you would get it that they aren't falling back to medieval (communism) ages anytime soon.

Is the Gross Domestic Product really the best indicator of how well the normal people fare? Vietnam has one of the fastest rising GDP’s in the Asia-Pacific region, but when I want there the people didn’t look particularly well off (by Western standards) materially.
