I'm happy to announce that in the regional elections of France, the Socialist and Communist Parties won 50% of the vote. While the right-wing UMP won 37% I believe, and the French Nationalist party (Le Front National) recieved 13%. These numbers are from memory but this is what I've heard. Furthermore I don't know the ratio between the Communist and the Socialist party, (it's more likely the socialist party won more), and I don't really know the platform of the socialist party. They could just be social democrats who use the name socialist.

So you mean the new PM for France is a 'socialist'?

As far as I've read, Raffarin was a member of the Socialist Party. but I could be mistaken.

Perhaps then it would be more logical for the communists to join the socialist party. Either way, the development of communism will happen differently depending on the country itself.

Socialism must succeed before communism can ensue.

Also, one must remember that a socialist/communist government within one country is dependant on being able to be materially able to supply the wants of the people.

In the first world I dont think it is possible, the resources of a single leading european country upon its home ground would not be able to sustain the wants of its people. The first world is dependant on world trade which depends on screwing over the third world for cheap goods.

Yet, a pan-european socialist alliance could potentially do it, using the EEC as a platform. Yet, i strongly feel the battle for world communism will only be won within the third world and developing countries as the starter point - if they can ever unite fully. They could actually enrich themselves rather than become poorer as first world countries would, and in the process make the first world capitalist countries poorer due to their missing out on their plunder. Then the people of the first world would realise that capitalism, deprived of imperialism does not deliver and join the movement.

is that quote-mongering of Marx?

Correction to my earlier post: It's only the regional elections. Chirac remains in office for a few more years.
