I don't think so. During World War I and World War II, the women had to take the roles of the men who had to fight. As far as I know, they mostly had to work in the factories.

Maybe the US Army... but Comrade, you have GOT to research the role of Women in the WWII SOVIET Army. Some of the best Pilots & Snipers - front line fighters - were Women.

I already knew that. However, most usually take a global view of it.

Women weren't in the (nonsoviet) military at all until recently.

Women were used extensively as nurses, telephone and radio operators, and as adjutants. However very few armies allowed women to fight on the front lines.

Don't forget the soviet women pilots or "night witches":

In spite of the rich history of American women in military aviation personified by the Women's Air Service Pilots (WASP's)) in World War II, the U.S. Armed Forces didn't begin training women for air combat service until 1993.

Yet, in 1942 the Soviet Union formed three regiments of women combat pilots who flew night combat missions and were so successful and deadly the Germans feared them, calling them "Nachthexen" - night witches.
