Was the Molotov Cocktail used any other time besides the WWII era by the Red Army?

Umm.. Its been used in almost every civil disturbance in history.

And, actually, it was first used by the Spanish Nationalists in the Civil War, and was first called a Molotov Cocktail by the Finns, who used them against the red army.

History is fine... but do NOT start talking about the construction or tactical use of this device, OK?

The Abyssinians were also known to have used a similar device in the second Italo-Abyssinian war.

The Abyssinians used the device differently however in that they threw the bottle filled with flammable liquid at the vehicle and then lit a rag on fire and threw that at the same vehicle near the flammable liquid.

Of course this method is much harder then the classical method as it requires you to get up close to the vehicle and with a good aim hit the vehicle twice with two seperate objects.

So as you can imagine the chances of failure in this method were high but the fact remains that it started a trend that was later used in the Spanish civil war and refined by the Finns in the winter war against the Soviets.

And the "poor man's anti tank weapon" is still successfully being used to this day against armoured fighting vehicles and is regarded as a classic, instantly recognizable and an icon and symbol of rebellion against opression by many people.

Long may the Molotov cocktail/petrol bomb reign supreme!

Certainly in extreme situations, but not as regular equipment. It's not very reliable and dangerous for someone to carry it.

Probably they used it in Stalingrad. I Can't find any evidence just now, but its more than likely that they did.

With supplies running low, muntions and weapons in short supply, they would have thrown anything they had the Nazis, even their shoes.

If you're dressed in civilian clothes, the battle is already over, and the victorious American Army is marching through the city, it shouldn't be impossible.

A similar device was already used by the Muslim forces in the Medievel Era: the naffatun.
It was a kind of jar or bottle filled with Greek Fire stuff.
They threw it on the enemy, and when it hitted someone, the oil-like material in it sticked at the clothes and skin of the enemy. It could'nt be put out by water.

The Molotov Cocktail that we use today (NOT THE FIRST MOLOTOV COCKTAIL) was surprisingly invented by the Finnish.
The Finnish were losing many lives on the battlefield during the Finnish-Soviet War, closer to the World War II ara, However wasn't in World War II just yet.
A Finnish Colonel needed a weapon that could kill, and be cheap.
So why not pour gasoline into a bottle and take a napkin and throw it. Brilliant.

So case and point, the Molotov that we use today was used in the FINNISH-SOVIET WAR.
