1958- The John Birch society is founded in Indianapolis. For those who don't know: http://www.jbs.org/

Just as I clicked on that link, I remembered who they were. Well, now whoever is monitoring my internet activities knows that I've been on the John Birtch society and the International Communist League—Fourth Internationalist Spartacist League websites over the course of the past 24 hours. They can have fun with that one.

More December 9 goodness:

1937 – Japanese troops under the command of Lt. Gen. Asaka Yasuhiko launch an assault on the Chinese city of Nanjing. We all know what happens next...
1941 – Many countries declare war on one another in the aftermath of the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor. I posted a link to a site that has a complete list for those interested here (or you could go back a page, whichever works for you).
[Cold War/Red Scare is FUN!]
1950 – Harry Gold is sentenced to thirty years in jail for helping Klaus Fuchs pass information about the Manhattan Project to the Soviet Union. His testimony is later instrumental in the prosecution of Julius and Ethel Rosenberg.
1953 – General Electric announces that all communist employees will be discharged from the company.
[/Cold War/Red Scare is FUN!]
1961 – The trial of Nazi Adolf Eichmann in Israel ends with verdicts of guilty on 15 criminal charges. Burn in hell, Nazi scum.
1965 – The Kecksburg UFO incident: a fireball is seen from Michigan to Pennsylvania; witnesses report something crashing in the woods near Pittsburgh
2003 – 2003 Red Square Bombing
2008 – The Governor of Illinois, Rod Blagojevich, is arrested by federal officials for a number of alleged crimes including attempting to sell the United States Senate seat being vacated by President-elect Barack Obama's election to the Presidency. Way to go, man, way to fragging go and embarrass yourself and your party, and in the process giving more ammunition for the Right.

Also, Peter Kropotkin was born in 1842.

December 16 I think was Frank Zappa's birthday. He would have been 70. Despite turning into a quasi-libertarian nut at the end, anyone who wrote "Who Are The Brain Police?" can't be all bad.

December 17, I got nothin'.

December 18, 1878 is what some claim was Stalin's actual date of birth. He apparently changed it to fit in with his 50th birthday celebration in 1929.
