Country/cowboy music was actually really popular in Czechoslovakia (and pretty popular in the GDR where he lived and where they're signing.) Michal Tučný was the most famous Eastern European singer in that genre. Some of the backup singers are from the USSR.

I think the Soviet authorities took some liberties with Reed, since after all he was meant to be a substitute for capitalist singers and he was actually a "true believer" in socialism, to the extent he reiterated in his suicide note that it was the best system humanity has. Fascists may listen to this music but weren't they fascists before they bought these works?

The link you give does not give any scientific proof that this will happen, so is therefore worthless.
People said that Wagner was the favourite composer of the Nazis but no one has yet proved that listening to him will turn you into one.
