http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jan_%C5%A0vankmajer - Really good short films, if you have seen the one of the dancing steaks,

Would be cool to find more, or similar artists, was this a popular trend, surrealist videos in Eastern bloc?

I don't know. There's a very long documentary on Svankmajer by the Brothers Quay, but I never finished it. He seemed more linked to French thinkers, more than anything, though I would love to be wrong about this.

Almost as awesome as Svankmajer is Zdenek Liska, who composed the music to most of his short films. Just based on these short films, he became one of my favorite film composers.

There's a box set that collects his animated work. Very much worth the money, if you can afford it.

Karel Zeman is another Czech animator:

Věra Chytilová is a Czech new wave director, well-known for her film "Daisies."

I have to go shower, but I'll comb through my youtube favorites and see if I can find anything else later.

This is one of my favourite films: The Fantastic Planet. Has anyone else seen it?
