I know there's already a few threads on Cambodia during this time, but I don't think this has been asked in any of them, what were the diplomatic relations like between Democratic Kampuchea and the other socialist countries at the time?

China supported them, another example as to why Mao completely lost it as he grew older.

All I know is that hostility existed with the Vietnamese from day one and the Chinese supported Cambodia because they thought Vietnam was too close to the Soviets. Even to the point of militarily attacking Vietnam. Just one more example of how shitty Mao's three world theory is.

Dag, I like how we've been saying exactly the same stuff lately.

I know right. Its weird how we went from damn near diametrically opposed to on the same page all the time. Evolution is a crazy bitch.
Although then again everybody should hate the three worlds theory. Its so mind numbingly retarded.

That's because we don't talk about him that much anymore. I mean there was a time where like every other thread was about Stalin. But when the opportunity presents itself for the next time, the Stalinist Mabool will make a glorious comeback.

The Khmer Rouge were regarded by Vietnam as crazed Maoists who espoused a weird Khmer supremacist philosophy and persecuted the Vietnamese minority, which probably contributed to the Vietnamese invasion and deposing of the government.

Khmer Rouge was supported by China even from civil war years. Vietnamese and Soviets didnt support them, USSR even recognized Lon Nol's government that took over by military coup in 1970 and ended Cambodia's neutralism under Sihanook. Then China persuaded Sihanook to make an alliance with the Khmer Rouge against Lon Nol. Sihanook's support gave great boost to Khmer Rouge who rose from 4.000 insurgents to 70.000 from 1970 to 1972 (Sihanook as former king and head of state had great popularity in Cambodia). What came next is known..
