Cuba is only behind China in most journalist imprisoned. Despite having a population of 11,000,000 (ranking it a 75th) it has an obviously very high rate of this such a thing compared to other nations. Considering its high rank and low population it seems Cuba does this more than nearly every other country out there.

Why is this? Do you agree with it? Does it effect your views of Cuba?

Is it a per capita statistic or a strictly numerical one?

I think that it is strictly numerical. Which, makes it even worse for Cuba considering the fact that they have a somewhat low population.

125/11,000,000 = 1.36 times 10^-5

I'm gonna go ahead and say, that's probably not too bad, considering they could just execute them if they wanted to lower that statistic, and it would be essentially just taking out the trash.

The US has more prisoners than that in Guantanimo I think.

First off those stats are from 2008. Most of the people who were caught in the crackdown of 2003 (because of Bush's Axis of Evil comments) have been released in a recent deal brokered with the Catholic Church in 2011.

Second considering that the Empire has done so much to topple the Revolution such as the blockade, funding dissent, promoting dissent, ect. It's kind of a no brainer that the Cuban authorities crackdown on them considering the US still has policies such as the Commission for Assistance to a Free Cuba i.e. regime change.

I don't see the problem with Cuba jailing dissidents who wish to overthrow the regime because they wish to reek social upheaval upon Cubans and virtually every country does the same thing, including the 'liberal democratic' Western states.
