The meeting is "for electing [the party's] highest leading body reflecting the new requirements of the WPK," the announcement said.

"We are now faced with the sacred revolutionary tasks to develop the WPK... into an eternal glorious party of Kim Il-sung and further increase its militant function and role to glorify the country as a great prosperous and powerful socialist nation."

Just imagine that his son takes power,just like he took power from his father.

I'm pretty sure the son thing has been completely disproven but that doesn't keep it from being regurgitated. I'm not saying the entirety is false but that the son thing is.

well i don't see much problem with his son being educated to be a state official. but to be president without testing his skills or real elections is lame. no one seem to care about raul castro being the brother of fidel.

I don't believe that Kim Jong-un will succeed his father. Kim Jong-il was a high official in the Korea Worker's Party before he assumed power, Kim Jong-un seems to live in exile, away from contact with North Korea. He does not have the experience Kim Jong-il had.

Raul has experience, though, from his work in the Cuban government. Kim Jong-un, however, seems to be virtually unknown, except that his father is the Dear Leader.

On the other hand, that's also how the current leader of Syria was viewed, because he was a doctor working overseas, until he ended up getting called on to succeed his father (I forgot exactly why). Of course, that is not to say that the DPRK works the same way, but with the question of succession, it can be often unpredictable with countries like these. It does make things quite exciting, though

Here's a bit more info concerning the possibilities of succession. It looks to me like Kim, being the loose cannon he is, would choose his young son to succeed him, precisely because all of the top military and Politburo candidates listed in this article are so patently geriatric. If Wonder Kim III should fail to establish himself as a strong leader, and power struggle breaks out, it could be the Mother of All Purges.

More accusations from the media.

Here are the actual facts:

A) The official DPRK stance on the future of the leadership is in absolute secrecy. The DPRK is a socialist democratic country, such colloquialisms such as "monarchies" and "dynasties" etc will not happen in the DPRK.

B) However, the official (Korean Friendship Association) position on Kim Jong Il's sons "taking over power" is denied. They have admitted that none of the Leader's sons will take over, as they are not known as well, nor are their feats as admirable as Kim Jong Il.

Maybe Kim Jong il will be replaced by the president or the premier
