A very rare interview of Yuri Gagarin made exclusively to the Finnish Broadcasting Company while visiting Finland in 1961. The reporter first says in Finnish what he is about to ask before translating the questions in Russian, to which he is replied in Russian; and then translates this to Finnish. Whoever understands either Finnish or Russian might find it interesting.

Thanks a lot. Very interesting. Gagarin seemed like a very charismatic and personable guy, always smiling -that's probably one of the reasons he was chosen to be the first. He also seemed very optimistic about the future of space travel, saying that if he were chosen to fly again he be willing to go anywhere -to the Moon, to Mars, Venus, or even to another solar system, most of which humanity hasn't done even up to now. I like how when asked about his wife and children, he answered politely but then interjected to change the subject to thank the Finns 'for their warm greetings of Soviet guests'. Soviet society didn't dwell on the personal lives of their famous people. That's probably why Gagarin replied as he did.

Oh how I envy Soviet society.
