What was Religion like? How was it different compared to Lenin's rule, Stalin's rule, Khrushchev's rule etc..

Some churches worked anytime.
But it wasn't good idea to christen your children. For example my grand-grand-ma secretly cristened my uncle cause his father, my grand pa, was military officer (major or lt colonel at that time), so the news cristening of his son coul be bad for his career.

People would identify as religious in census surveys, so at least by Brezhnev, there'd have been fairly little repression.
Of course it might still be viewed negatively if you were a party member or similar.
