Was Nintendo released in East Germany or the USSR or any other eastern european communist country? I don't think so But I was just wondering. Also was the NES released in West Germany?

The Dendy was moreso a 1990s system than a Soviet one (ie popular in the early to mid 1990s, not 1980s while the USSR was still around).

As regards your original question LINK398: Nintendo was never officially released in the Soviet Union, and any systems that were in peoples homes were contraband. As to the second question, of course the NES was released in West Germany.

NES is amazing. By far my favorite system.

I'm a sega-guy. Sega 8 bit and sega 16 bit.

Were they not aloud to be released in those countries or something?

Perhaps nintendo didn't fancy incurring the wrath of America by trading with the USSR and friends
lol

Remember what happened when British Leyland sold buses to Cuba, very bad PR

Just like Nikon didn't give a camera to a Cuban boy. (see thread in Cuba subforum)

I'm sure Super Mario would have appealed to communists; proletarian underdog and his brother take down the evil capitalist Koopa and his oppressive military-industrial complex.

and the little flag he raises up, red star on a white background :P

True, but Mario's clearly pro-monarchist himself. Too bad he lacks the revolutionary spirit and doesn't disembowel the princess after getting to the final castle.
