Your 603 (if that's where you sourced the engine bay pic) is very clean looking. My compliments...

Thanks!

My old man had a moskvitch back in the mid 70's. I was only 3 or 4 years old so I know nothing about them at all, except for memories of what it looked like... it was a big white chrome-grilled thing, with sort of sad looking big front lights... Not sure of it's age exactly, but it ran an old "L" plate... I can remember searing my thighs on teh seats on summer when I wore shorts :o) Despite this, I loved the thing & was gutted when we chopped it in for a Japbox the same as everyone else on our street... even though I'm sure we were the subject of ridicule, tearing around the place in our "commie car"...

Sounds like one of these:

It's a Moskvich 427

This one is in the Kemp Auto Museum in St Louis. It's sort of funny. Every other car in the collection is a Mercedes or a Porsche.

Dacia 1100 , one of the oldest cars

Later, the new version Dacia 1310 becomes the most popular car on Romanian roads until 1989.

Nobody has mentioned the Yugo.

The Trabant is awesome, save the fuel tank in the front, not a brilliant move DDR....

Oh, and what is this I read about the trabant being a bad car?

I like that convertible Volga done up there. Is that an actual Soviet car? I've never seen one like it.

The Volga Cabriolet is real - there's a couple of pics for it here: http://russianfun.net/interesting-galleries/soviet-union-cabriolets/ In this rendering, the wheels are custom, and the plastic grille means that it was real it would be a chop job (because Volgas purchaseable for private use were released without as much chrome, and there was no cabriolet version).

I wonder if I'd be able to get myself one......

My father drove a Volga Gaz in the 1970s, and it was a very reliable and durable car.

However, my grandfather drove a Chevrolet.

Trabant 601 made sexy by presence of lovely girls. Makes me wish that I had one, barring all the safety tests it has go through before aproving it here (which they'll probably not do).

Damn, this thread has gone wrong because the length of this thread has increased horizontally.
