your opinion?

i believe that chechens are a bit stupid, they were independent, only officially under Russian rule by 1993 and then begun terrorizing nearby provinces (Dagestan, Ingushetyia). Isn't that stupid? What would you do in that case, if you were Russian President, if Chechens attacked the Russian Federation?
Post 25 Mar 2004, 21:46
I actually talked with an Ingushi guy once that talked about that. The Chechens asked for independence but such requests came to nothing. When they declared independence they got Russian tanks rolling across their nation- and the Russian Army is QUITE brutal and inhumane there (it makes sense that some Chechens feel compelled to commit horrible terrorist acts). When I asked about the whole Dagestan incident, he told me that the Chechens who invaded Dagestan were a split-off faction from the main seperatist forces- not endorsed by most Chechens.

Simple: I wouldn't BE the President of Russian Federation, but the President of the restored RSFSR, and I would grant the Chechen people the right to independence and autonomy :P

Lmao. Foreigners are not allowed to participate in elections.

Agreed. And people with certain disabilites would be forceably placed into an eugenics program.

Can't we make a bit of fun?

Anyway...let me not open mmy mouth

give them their damn independence already... It seems like a fairly simple solution to me, really.
Post 28 Mar 2004, 11:55
not that i have something against them, but chechens should remain in the Russian federation.

Not that I have something against them, but Greece should have remained under the control of Turkey.
Post 28 Mar 2004, 12:10
yeah man that would be nice. You know, Greeks were in the Ottoman government? Actually most of it? And it was no turkey, fool.

GREEKS from FANARI (Fener, nowadays Istanbul) were rulers of Serbia, Moldavia, Wallachia, etc. ORTHODOX GREEKS.

Ottomans were relied on language-knowing persons...such as Greeks in that age.

I don't think it would hurt to free these people.
Post 29 Mar 2004, 02:35
exactly...which is why I don't understand the opposing position

Chechnya Has been part of Russian Territory A LONG TIME(Pardon caps).

Russia Giving up Chechnya would be like America giving up Virginia!
Post 29 Mar 2004, 05:21
more like giving up iraq. right now, at least.

afaik
Post 29 Mar 2004, 05:22
They would never have this kind of problem, had the Soviet Union still existed.

Most of the Chechenyans want Chechenya to be independent. Do you have any reason to justify them not getting autonomy beyond pan-Russian nationalism?
Post 29 Mar 2004, 15:34
Russia/USSR controlled chechenya for hundreds of years. It is like saying to the Russians renaming Kaliningrad to Konigsberg, for English giving away Scotland, for Greeks allowing Turkey to conquer Cyprus (as part of Turkey), and it goes...

I belive over-extended autonomy would be good for both sides.
Post 29 Mar 2004, 21:31
I repeat, do you have ANY argument beyond nationalism?
Post 30 Mar 2004, 04:30
I don't think so
