By comrade Matthew Tobin (a.k.a. AlvinSE)

Last night I chanced to chat with a member of the working-class from Houston. He noticed my name from a local group that I am a part of.

He told me his name was "John."

I said, "My name is Matthew Tobin. I am pro-socialist."

He was surprised I was open about my name.

I told him, "There is nothing to hide under socialism. Privacy has no place under the working-class. With impunity capitalists broker and buy intimate information on their employees and people they wish to sell products to. There is no such thing as privacy under capital, so there is no reason for me to pretend so."

I told him that I was interested in politics, to which he replied, "Politics is so confusing. I don't feel very smart."

I told him, "Politics is confusing because 'my betters' don't wish me to be involved. No one is better than me."

I told him that I am not talking about 'smarts' or speaking from a point of pride, but I am speaking of the fact I am conscious of who I am as a person who works. "Ultimately," I said, "the future belongs to people who work for it."

We need to share this message with everyone wherever our foot touches ground. And this is the message that I want to remind all new people to USSR Online. No one is better here, we are all equals. Some of us write a lot, some of us do not. But if our heart is in the right place, if we are listening to those all around us, and we are committed to socialism and its triumph, then we are the everyday hero and we are the best that the world has to offer.

C.E.C. Chairman Zhelezov resigns!

In a surprise announcement to the Central Executive Committee comrade Zhelezov has tended his resignation. His statement was as follows:

Fellow Comrades!

I regretfully inform you that I must resign my position as Chairman of the Central Executive Committee. My summer job, time spent chilling out with friends and doing things I planned on doing during the summer (like reading a lot) are taking up almost all of my time. I think I have laid a solid foundation for this organization to continue and I recommend my successor retain my rules, procedures and archives (with some personalized changes, of course).

It's been a pleasure to work and discuss the issues with you comrades. I ask Comrade Sokath as my Deputy Chairman to open up nominations and eventually a voting thread to elect the next Chairman. I thank you all for your understanding.

Good bye, I'll make sure to drop in once in a while.

In Solidarity,
People's Deputy Alexander Zhelezov
Chairman of the Central Executive Committee

The statement was met with all-round sadness that he was leaving but gratitude for his hard work, even from some of his harshest critics.

Keith LaBelle retains Secretariat of the CPSU

By Comrade Sokath
Saturday, June 01, 2002

In a reasonably close 7 to 4 vote, Comrade LaBelle edged out Comrade Delphi for the position of Secretary of the CPSU. Regrettably, Comrade CW did not get any votes, but has gone on to greater endeavours.

Comrade LaBelle had been acting Secretary of the Party for the past month and has been instrumental in the creation of the Party's Manifesto, as well as donating webspace for it at sovietrevolution.com

Comrade LaBelle, briefly after his victory, made a post, citing his plans for the coming quarter and was quoted as saying "First off I'd like to thank all the comrades who took part in the recent election. Democracy only works when people participate".

Comrade LaBelle's post-victory statements can be read below:

First off I'd like to thank all the comrades who took part in the recent election. Democracy only works when people participate.

Since the Formation of the CPSU we have made a good amount of progress, both for the party and for the USSR. There is however, still a lot of work that could be done. I have always thought the USSR could be a leading force in the communist movement through the use of the Internet as our unbiased media.

As of current we have over 100 comrades that have decided to participate here at the USSR; but I feel this number is rather conservative. We all know there are far more than 100 communists on the Internet and I would like to see as many as possible take part with us here.

I also do have some concerns over our solidarity. As of recent a lot of petty arguments have broken out usually resulting in frivolous accusations. I hope I don't speak alone when I say that this nonsense should stop. I don't want to see the USSR become a divided state and with all the work every comrade has put into here, I feel that would be a great tragedy if it were to happen.

We are the working class, we are tolerable people and most importantly we must be tolerable of each other. Communism only works with everyone so therefore we should think of everyone's needs.

My goals in the next three months are to reinforce the principles laid out in our Party Manifesto and the Imagine Act. I'd like to see us create some type of passport, Identification and even perhaps toy around with the idea of creating a currency.

Increasing participation within the USSR will of course always be a goal. We can do this by actively taking part within the Central Executive Committee and assisting foreign affairs whenever need be.

Keith LaBelle
Proud Member of the CPSU

It is the hope of the Party, and verily, all citizens of the Union, that Comrade LaBelle's time in this position will strengthen the Union as a whole.

All power to the Soviets!

Dog Mines

While I was searching for images for the T-34 tank webpage this afternoon I came across a rather interesting picture of a dog running towards a tank. It appears to be a dog-mine and is the first picture I have seen of one. Anyhow, I have uploaded it to a new page about the Soviet dog-mines.

Andropov Released

By Comrade Sokath

Yuri V. Andropov, who has since mended his ways and changed his name to Keith LaBelle, was released from his period of punishment today. Despite the fact that he has been devoting his time to the laying of the groundwork of the fledgling C.P.S.U., Comrade LaBelle is now able to hold the position of Chairman or deputy-Chairman of the C.o.S. or the C.E.C. He is also free from the ever-vigilant eye of Soviet justice, as his probationary period has also come to a close.

Let it be hoped that Comrade LaBelle will not let this small blemish on his impeccable record prevent him from continuing to be a productive and useful member of our community.

All Power to the Soviets!

Legislative Procedure Act

The Central Executive Committee has voted unanimously to adopt the Legislative Procedure Bill. The new act provides the government with a framework to work within when debating and voting upon legislation and should ensure some continuity of procedure with changes of Chairman. The current chairman (comrade Zhelezov) has also implemented a list of his own legislative procedures in addition to the new act to make proceedings run as smoothly as possible.

Radio to the People

Our community took another step forwards today as the first independent radio station went live in the C.C.C.P. The comrades over at Radio Lycanthrope have agreed to transmit to the Union and a link to their site can now be found on the brand new Radio Stations webpage.

Our site's navigation menu has been reorganised a bit and will be changed around a little more shortly before the discussion forums are once again totally integrated into the website. For those who are not aware, when we upgraded our forum the manner in which the navigation menu was added to the forum has changed, making it a little more annoying for me to sort out, but I'll get around to it eventually.

C.E.C. session to start Wednesday

For anyone who missed the weekend, comrade Zhelezov won the election for chairman of the Central Executive Committee with 69% of the vote. Shortly after his win was confirmed chairman Zhelezov made the following address:

Thank You Comrades!

I warmly thank my fellow comrades who have entrusted me to lead them in the Central Executive Committee.

I also shake the hand of my opponent in the election, Comrade Bryan Brasher, and pledge to work with him in cooperation towards our common goals.

I promise the Congress of Soviets that they will see immediate results in the way the CEC is run and will appreciate the efficiency and organization that I will bring to it. The bills and proposals that now get debated over and then forgotten, will now be subject to a standard process that will bring each idea to the finish line, to the voting booth. Comrades, you will not be disappointed!

In Solidarity,

People's Deputy Alexander Zhelezov
Chairman of the Chief Executive Committee

His election adversary comrade Premier (who has now changed his username to Delphi) was quick to offer his congratulations, wishing "The Best Of Luck To You".

Already the new chairman has instituted new methods of organising the committee more efficiently and a number of bills and proposals are in debate prior to the next session of the Central Executive Committee beginning on May Day.

C.o.S. Wraps Up For The Spring

I have just uploaded the "Imagine Act" and the new constitution to the website which have now both been passed by the Congress of Soviets. In a fantastic show of support for our communities' new direction the Imagine Act was passed unanimously, and the new constitution, which turns the nation into a direct democracy was passed with an 82% majority. All that remains for the Congress of Soviets to do before the end of the week is to elect a chairman for the Central Executive Committee. The candidates presently are comrade Premier and comrade Zhelezov in a race of which no one can really predict the outcome with any certainty.
