Introduction

Welcome to the Soviet Union comrade! Firstly to avoid any confusion, this is not the old Soviet Union located in the territory that was formerly the Russian Empire and is now a collection of states including the Russian Federation. Nor do the people in our community support dictatorship, oppression, state killings, suppression of free speech, etc. If you were thinking any of those things then you may be forgiven, as it is a common misconception among people who have not gotten to know what we are all about and are still thinking Reagan-speak "Evil-Empire".

Now for what we are; the good people here in our community are committed to pure democracy, freedom, peace and crucially, equality for all. While some of us might like to see a global revolution to redress the vast inequalities in the world we are realists, and admit that such ideas are presently 'pie in the sky' fantasies. However, instead of doing nothing we decided to take the first small steps to a new world, and in our own small way make the world a better place by bringing people together.

We therefore are attempting to create the world's first international country though the use of the internet to organise a global direct democracy government - effectively going over the heads of the world military-industrial complex that has divided the world into nation states. In our new U.S.S.R. any citizen is allowed to take part in the government and have their fair say in the running of the country regardless of race, religion, wealth or geographic location. Because we believe that all people should have the right to self-determination, we do not recognise the land on which we live as the property of the "Nation States" in which we happen to reside but as part of our new global country (citizenship of country being by choice rather than by birth).

Our ultimate goals (which we shall probably fail to reach in our lifetime) can be summarised by John Lennon's song "Imagine".

You are welcome to join us even if it's only to take part in discussion on our forums. No one is required to pay any money to help maintain our project; it is all purely voluntary. The thing that is most important to us is to develop a true spirit of community and camaraderie that is missing from so much of the world today.
